I really liked this essay. Never thought much about Ron/Luna, but you made some good canon points about their potential.

Thanks. Glad I could get someone to see another side of things.

This is significant, I think, because, this has never happened before. Luna meets both Ron and Harry… and finds Ron more interesting.

Very interesting point, and one that I saw on the first read of OotP. From the moment I read that scene in the compartment (and waaaaay before I found fandom and even started shipping any pairing, before I even cared) I thought that Luna liked Ron, or was at the very least interested in him. Her actions throughout the remainder of the book (that you cited) confirmed it. What I liked about Luna is that she liked Ron for Ron. JKR has always made Ron be second best at everything (not a dig at his character, trust me) that I was happy that he was finally going to have something of his own, seperate from his family or Harry. But, alas, it was not to be.

I'm so impressed that you keep posting essays about HBP. The book made me so totally lose interest that I hardly think about it. But, I do love reading your opinions, whether I agree with them or not.

Which is why I hope that Luna/Ron's friendship grows in the last book. Ron's biggest falling that he's afraid that he'll succede and that's why he doesn't try as much.

Even though there were many problems I had with HBP, I love the characters and story enough to do stuff like this. And I'll hold my final judgement for Harry Potter after the seventh book comes out.

Excellent essay. I could go on and say why I agree so much with this essay but I believe the people before me have already said all I can think of. But I do wish to add this essay to Redmoonshippers.com, a site that I run. It would be wonderful to add another essay since the R/L community is running on a low.

Take care,
Ladie-A

I adore Ron/Luna! Even though I will ship Ron with nearly everyone, this is definately one of my tops. It is very hard to find this pairing on it's own or without being a secondary side ship to H/Hr. I see it alot as a throw off pairing, or a "Ron needed someone to worship the ground he walked on, and when Hermione was too wonderful/bright/beautful/glorious for him, he settled for Luna."

But really, there is so much in canon to play with for this pairing. It can develop on it's own, and doesn't only have to occur when Harry is paired off with Hermione.

I don't read too many Luna pairings though. I like Luna with Charlie, and Luna/Draco, though I haven't read any Luna/Harry yet. I just think that Ron/Luna is the best pairing for her, though Charlie and Luna discussing weird creatures together on some random dragon ranch is starting to grow on me too!

Most people don't pull off Ron/Luna well since they seem to forget the dynamics of the pairing. Luna accepts Ron and Ron's learning to accept Luna and that simple message is the reason I've fallen for this pairing.

Luna/Draco sounds like tons of fun. And I've read some great Harry/Luna fics, too.

For both really. Wanna see Charlie shipped with anyone but Hermione or Tonks, and I like Draco with most people cept Harry and Hermione. (Why I'm not into the two biggest Draco ships is probably a query.)

I love Ron/Luna. I ship H/Hr first and foremost, but the minute we saw Luna in the train compartment in OotP, I felt like she was the right girl for Ron. Her internal compass is quite unique; she likes who and what she likes, regardless of whether it's popular or whether anyone thinks she's crazy to like it/them. She's very forthright and honest, to the point of sometimes seeming to have no tact. She calls things the way she sees them, which is unusual in a series with so many people dissembling about various things. And I have to agree that the biggest reason I like Ron/Luna is because I think Ron needs a girl who likes him EXACTLY the way he is. He's perfectly fine the way he is, but because of his family situation, then being the best mate of the Boy Who Lived, he tends to be shunted aside AND he doesn't always have a lot of self-confidence. Luna seems to be the only girl at Hogwarts who sees all of Ron's good and bad points and accepts him exactly the way he is, neither wanting nor expecting him to change, and that's why I like ( ... )

Exactly! Ron and Luna just fit so well together.
