Title: A relationship that complicated Author: Petra LeMaitre Fandom: DC Comics / DCU Pairing: Dick Grayson/Tim Drake (Nightwing/Robin III) Spoilers: Through War Games and Identity Crisis, Teen Titans v3 #25
I got into this fandom specifically in search of Dick/Tim. Though I still think there isn't nearly enough fic for them out there, this is an excellent explanation of why the pairing is so damn compelling, and I don't doubt that this'll inspire some interesting scenarios.
This is because the present writer has, to all appearances, not read the previous issues, and therefore makes characterization mistakes quite frequently.
I think that's the nicest thing I've heard anyone say about He Who Shall Not Be Named. *throws sharp things at him*
Apart from that - awesome. I tend towards the all-ships-are-equal point of view, and don't really think of myself as a slasher anyway, but who can resist bat-boys? I appreciate the amount of work you put into this - definitely fun to read.
The vitriol goes elsewhere. And -- thank you! I don't actually have an OTP, though at the time I signed up to write this, I had four WIPs with this pairing. In between now and then, I've written eleven or twelve other pairings in the fandom, depending on how you count. It made getting back into the birdboys groove interesting, to say the least.
When I first got into fandom I went a-looking for Bruce/Dick. As you said, there really wasn't enough around, so I happily made-do with Tim/Dick and fell in love with them too. Your essay is wonderful for this pairing, it needs more fics and more attention, and it might be enough to get me to fucking LET GO of my OTP. Once in a while. Hopefully. And get back to reading other Dick-pairings.
Really good. I appreciate that people take the time to write these manifestos and say the things I kinda blither about in my head but never bother to articulate. :D
I tend to end up re-explaining things over and over again to various people unless I get it all out in one sensible place, so this was a good exercise for me.
