New Years' and Birthday

New Year's Eve got a little uncomfortable at home, so my sister and I celebrated my birthday early Friday night (she had to work on Monday, anyway). We went to this Japanese restaurant, Shogun, in Havertown, around 9p. Oddly enough, they weren't open till midnight, which was just "What??", but anyway. Got some chicken udon, which I did not like, ( Read more... )

Aww, totoro icon! I saw that for the first time this summer (had a bit of a Ghibli-fest) and wondered why it took me so long.

My sister had vegetable tempura and I wound up snagging some of that since I didn't like the udon; it is so good.

Thanks :)

Oh it sounds like you had a great birthday dinner with your sister. Sorry there was uncomfortableness at home though.

Awww kitties. I wish I weren't allergic to cats so I could have one. I always want to pet them and I can't!

I'd been meaning to go back to Shogun for a long while, and though it took some family trouble, it was still a treat to go. It's not even a holiday thing with my family, but it does feel a bit worse when it's at that time of year, of course.

I didn't have any pets till I was 13 and envied those who had them for so long. My allergies aren't too severe, but my uncle probably is like you as he can't visit us at home because he has severe cat allergies (as well as others requiring shots) but can have dogs, thankfully. You've still got your puppies, though :)

It really was nice this year :) I first got into Japanese back when I discovered manga (japanese comics)/anime years ago and honestly, I just wanted to be able to read the fan comics (doujinshi) that are produced each year for different series in Japan. It's much more than that now, of course, that keeps me going.
I taught myself a good deal before I enrolled in a college that offered classes up to the intermediate level. Since I'm out of courses (and I love the language) I practice daily on improving by skill level. After I graduate in the spring, I'm going to look into working in Japan teaching English, as my main goal is fluency and that is one of the best ways to gain it.
