Recently there's been a drop in story announcements on
shinyandnew, even though plenty of new stories are being written.
shinyandnew is the easiest way to let popslash readers outside your flist know about new stories, and it gives newcomers

I was thinking of something along those lines, yes.
I'm not so sure about genre
I think the problem would be 1) deciding what the genres were, and 2) choosing a genre for the stories. I'd hate for writers to get offended if people tagged their stories with genre labels they didn't like.
I would be happy to join in a tagging project as it would be awesome to be able to look up all those old stories!

Perhaps the genre tags could only be applied if the author has specified ('crack' would often be indicated, I think) or self-tagged.
I'll volunteer to help with tagging.

As for genre though - I don't think popslash stories have traditionally been labelled for genre, so I don't know if even authors themselves would know how to tag that, let alone other people. Except for the obvious "crack" and "AU", but everything else is kind of... not standardized?

Yes, I agree. And to be honest, I'm not even sure that people could agree on definitions for crack and AU. I suppose it might still be useful to some people as an optional thing, though. (I admit, I just want an easier way to find the porn. I'm lazy like that :-)

You raise an interesting point with the Wayback Machine. I don't know whether it would be acceptable to provide direct links to IA entries when the primary page has gone.
