The Pit AKA Fanfiction.net

Sep 12, 2012 23:07

So, when one gets desperate for fanfic, occasionally, one back slides to the Pit. Not all the fic is bad, but it's hard to find ones worth the time of sloshing through all the horrid ones. (I wanted Vega/Cortez fic, and I finished with the ones at AO3 quick, shut up ( Read more... )

look shiny!, ff.net, puntastic, random, mass effect cores are hot

Honestly, I wish I didn't have to go to the Pit for anything at all but its one of the few places I can find one of my favorite pairings. It just seems to sink deeper and deeper into hopeless despair and horrible writing with each passing year. The one fandom exception is Harry Potter, which seems to be getting better and better as the fandom matures.

Honestly though, I have seen some truly horrifying and disgusting things over there in the last few months, and heaven forbid if a writer who doesn't care about source material and character personalities becomes popular! They collect these fools who worship their OOC writing because they don't know better then they breed and soon the pairings you love are just utter CRAP.

*sighs painfully* The horror.... the horror.

(sorry, I've been looking for an outlet to vent about the bad and you presented one! I hope you didn't mind)

Agreed, so much agreed. @_@ I don't spend enough time there to see if any one fandom's getting better. My head would explode.

...noooo, not the OOC. D:

(Haha, it's fine. I don't mind. I miss my flist; I'll have them anyway I can get them. Lol, but I never really mind rants in my comments. All for it. <3)

My flist bearly posts anymore, and this is the first post in months that I've had more than one person comment? :/ I mean, kink memes and comms are alive, I guess, but I feel like everyone's gone to tumblr. D:

Anch'io. Non voglio fare niente di universita'. >>;; Ohshit, gotta correct my Italian homework. TUMBLR, STOP TRAPPING ME! *sob*

Heh, yeah, I generally don't venture there unless I get linked to or rec'd a fic that's posted there. Though there's still a few authors over there that I've flagged and will read when they update (mainly because I'm not sure if they have an LJ and am just too lazy to try and find out, lol).

It's funny, but I think fanfiction.net is like a gateway drug for fanfiction. So many people seem to get there start there before finding other platforms (and/or hopefully improving their writing abilities).

And though I love your puns with the lemons and limes, I can't say I'd ever saw those referenced over at ff.net. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention to the headers and such, lol!

Saaaaame. But I sloshed through some anyways. @_@

It really is. I hope everyone gets away from that Pit. >>;; And gets to be better writers.

:D How did you never see it? Maybe it's more dominate in anime or Japanese based fandoms... Hmmm...

Maybe it is more dominate in those fandoms. When I was "active" over there, it was back in 2007-2008, and I was primarily in the Justice League Animated Universe fandom, then sliding into the DCU/Batman fandom. I then basically moved to LJ, and just kept a presence there to favorite the random fics I'd be directed to/keep up with my favorite authors/ongoing stories. Only recently did I start going over there a bit more, when I discovered Torchwood, but that was basically for again those fics that were sent my way.

I can't recall ever seeing a the terms "lemon" or "lime" in the context you mentioned, but I could just have not been paying enough attention. Wouldn't be the first time, lol.

I wasn't in any sort of comic fandoms back then when I was on ff.net, so I couldn't tell you, but definitely predominate in the dominate fandoms there like anime and JRPG video games. I don't even know where it came from. Haha, maybe it started with something Japanese? Now I wanna look that up...
