Yaito jerked when she heard his voice. Why did he have to show up now? Why couldn't have Pride shooed her out of the house some other time? She curled up tighter, ignoring him, hoping he'd go away.
"But she's nice," Yaito insisted softly. "I... watch you when you're around her. You always smile around her. She's prettier than I am, and she doesn't get angry, or make fun of you..."
"I do not always smile around her!" Enzan protested. "I don't mind when you pick on me, Yaito--I pick back! That's what we do. And... she's not prettier than you."

Nothing twisted harder than that. He didn't want to make her cry. He didn't really want to make anyone cry. That went too far.
She thinks you don't like her at all. Do you like her?
