Title: Just Another Day
Fandom: DCU
Character(s): Steph, Mrs. Brown, cameo appearance from a Boy Wonder
Pairing(s): past-Tim/Steph
Word Count: 825
Genre: general
Rating: PG/K+
Notes: I made a very danceable playlist, so some songs are to be credited for putting me in the mood for this fic: Bad Romance (Lady Gaga), Crazy Possessive (Kaci Battaglia), and TiK Tok (Ke$ha). Yes, I'm crazy, but my Steph!muse seems to be sharing my mood about this weekend. XD Totally for people who say V-Day should suck it. :D Steph wakes up then wishes the day would go away. (Takes place during currentish canon, maybe a little A/U, but probably not by much.) Oh, and Steph's outfit at the end? That's right here. Say hi me! XD

Waking up then noticing the date on the calendar by her bed, Stephanie Brown took her pillow and shoved it over her head, muttering a few curses to make the day go away. After a few minutes, it didn't and her phone alarm went off, playing some pop type tune she had picked for the week. She reached for the phone, clicking the tune off, almost tumbling out of bed with less grace then any of her Batgirl predecessors.

“...I could write a bad romance too, just give me a pen,” she grumbled as she changed her ring tone a bit bitterly.

Though, slowly waking up after she changed her ring tone, maybe she shouldn't just pretend this day is going to go away. With that thought, Steph jumped out of bed, determined, and when she was determined, things happened. They might not always be good things, but she made them happen.

Steph grabbed the push up bra she had 'forgotten' to give back to Babs and started digging in her closet. After a few minutes of digging and a few thrown piece of clothing and some shoes later, Steph emerged from the closet, frustration set in her features.

“I don't have anything to wear!” she shouted in frustration.

“Honey, you have plenty to wear if you have a-”

“I don't! Not talking about that!” Steph cut off her mother, not wanting any reminders of her terrible luck.

“What about that nice-”

“Mom, drop it!” she exclaimed, a little pleadingly as she pulled on some jeans and a tank over the push up bra. “I'm going shopping! I'll be back later and show you what I got! Love you!”

Steph ran by her mother, kissing her on the cheek, and ignored whatever her mom said next since she probably didn't want to hear it as she grabbed her jacket and ran out the door.

A few hours of shopping did wonders for her mood as she left the last thrift store. She didn't quite have the money to go on a mall shopping spree, but Steph knew how to find the good stuff at a thrift shop. Just wash them and a few little sewing alterations and no one can really tell the difference. Hell, half the time her friends like her thrift store find better than her 'brand name' clothes, so she just stopped buying at the mall unless there was a sale.

Once she got home, there was a note on the table from her mom. Steph sighed when she read it, feeling bad that her mom had to pull a double shift at the hospital, but she decided she'd have fun for the both of them as she took her prizes and headed for the laundry room.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the clothes were washed and dried, she took the pile into her room, dropping them unceremoniously on her bed, she went digging under the clothes she threw about earlier for her sewing machine.

“Yes!” she exclaimed victoriously, with mini sewing machine in arm.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With wipe of her brow, she had the perfect outfit laid out on her bed. Her black, not quite knee high combat boots sat by her bed. The shortish, almost pleated, pinstriped gray skirt just needed the black ribbon on it to be adjusted a bit before she wore it. The black, silky corset type top just needed its ribbons to be re-laced. The black sweated duster was fine as it was. All she needed to complete the look was some black stockings, maybe her black bow headband, a few pieces silver colored jewelry from her jewelry box, and a bit of make up.

Steph was proud of herself then glanced at the time. She should have time to go dancing, and with that push up bra is all the cover money she'll need. Nothing could ruin her night, nothing. Then her communicator went off in her purse. She scowled, and Steph was ready to give O a piece of her mind if she expected her to work tonight before she has her fun.

“O, I have plans-”

“Good thing I'm not O. Meet me at the coordinates I sent. Out.”

Steph stared at the comm as it clicked off. With an aggravated sigh, she looked at her outfit forlornly before she started pulling on her Batgirl costume. Quickly, she shoved her outfit into her closet before she wrote a quick note that she dropped on her bed in case her mom came home before she came back.

“Yeah,” she muttered to herself as she pulled on her cowl, turning to the window. “Every girl wants to spend Valentine's night with her ex who left town and ignored her for months. Really.”

With that, she jumped out the window to meet Red Robin, knowing it had to be important if he called her instead of the Birds or even Batman.
