finally broke down and joined facebook

That's right, I caved into peer pressure. After all this time, and people nagging me a dozen times per week to get one already. There were a couple things holding me back, I suppose. One being, of course, that I don't go online nearly enough. And then there's the fear that a random person from my highschool days has become some sort of skin eating ( Read more... )

To think, my own sister :P Last name is Strauss. That's weird, though. If anything, it might disallow viewing of my actual profile. But it should still let people send friend requests. That option can't be turned off. I found yers yesterday, so I could always add you in that case if need be.

I must be one of the only people left on Earth without a Facebook page or does not bother with MySpace. I just refuse.

For photos, Jeebus?
If those pics were so important, they'd email the ones with you in them to you to see or find another way.

Sadly, that won't happen. I've been barking up that "email" tree for years. People just seem very hesistant to do that. No clue as to why.

While I can agree that MySpace is absolute trash, I don't feel that way about Facebook for the most part. Even the advertisements that show up don't bother me because they aren't exactly "in your face."

Well it's not just for photos. Although our friends here do take TONS of those, to the point where emailing links isn't an option. But also lots of people were announcing gatherings on there, and other such things that I would miss now and then. Facebook is actually a really nice site. It's very clean and organized, with lotsa cool features that are simple to use. Very orderly and consistent, too, since general page layout is the same for every user...

Unlike MySpace which, since it allows infinite customization, is a total mess. Not to mention all the security issues. Pretty much everyone has jumped ship from MySpace ages ago (aside from select folks, mostly for networking purposes). You don't need to worry about being tempted into one of those. But as for Facebook, maybe one day you'll join the masses. If anything, like Adam said below, it even beats Livejournal in terms of consistency and security.

AMAZING. I'm glad you finally decided to put aside paranoia (dirty mix) and join. I still find it so much more secure than something like MySpace or even LJ.

now if Lee weren't such a beer, he'd join FB too.

I was pleasantly surprised by how great the security and privacy features were. You can really hide on there if you want. Like heck, I knew what your abbreviated Facebook name was, but it STILL wouldn't show up in search results until I was a "friend of a friend." And yes, Lee is quite a beer.
