Congratulations on the internship and the red ribbon! That's amazing. I bet California will be a joy to live in over the summer! :) That's great news.

As for your eye, is there anywhere near your campus or within driving distance that is a free clinic? They're not exactly "free" of course, but they usually work on a sliding scale based on your income (if you have one or not). Try to find one if you can, or does your insurance only work in NJ? Cause sometimes insurance sites list all sorts of doctors you can go to on their website. (For example, I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield and I can just go to their website and find doctors with in a 5-10 mile radius).

Well I went to the school clinic and had it looked at but they're just general physicians, not specialists, so they didn't see anything wrong but suggested I go to the ophthalmologist. And my insurance is an HMO which according to the referral lady usually limits the coverage to fairly close to my home address. or something. I'm not really sure, I don't understand health insurance. But they said any of the places up here would be out of pocket unless I go to the emergency room. :\

Oh geez. Well, you can maybe call up some places and ask anyway? It never hurts to ask, even if they do say no. Or maybe if they give you a bill you can submit it to your insurance at a later time since you're out of state. My insurance was kind of a pain like that last year when I was living in NJ and my mom's insurance was for OH.

If you have a major company for your insurance they should have a website maybe explaining what you can or cannot do. Sometimes just calling the insurance company themselves can help but usually you have to wait around for awhile until you can get through to an actual human being. It's worth a shot either way, though, because blurriness in your eye cannot be good - especially if you're expected to go to class and everything else.
