Re housekeeping, the "trick" (such as it is) is to develop a routine so you do the basic stuff without thinking about it. The FlyLady system is based around that, although I recommend skipping the site and just reading the book (Sink Reflections by Marla Cilley) if you're interested in her system.
The job market is in a low place. Vogon has been looking since December in advance of a contract job he had ending and most positions for a senior software engineer in our area are getting filled within hours. Don't forget to check with your state's veteran job bank.
Enjoy the contentment while it lasts, I'm pretty sure it wears off. I've only ever been a homemaker with a kid though, so I'm probably biased (and tired of doing sweeps to find dirty dishes outside of the kitchen).
I think that.. for right now, houseboy is good.. I mean, you don't have to do it for the rest of your life, it's not your career, but for right now, it's satisfying enough. Doing it *is* a full time job and I think after the past few years, planning your own day and re-acclimating yourself to the basics is a great way to start.
and awww, you pack her lunch... that's really sweet, and.. I could use an Asian houseboy here, too. If you lose your gig, let me know ;)
