Important Note for Katrina Donaters...

I wish I had the actual solid source here, but I don't so you'll have to find out for yourselves. But on one of the groups I belong to it has been going around that the Salvation Army will pull back it's funding of Katrina rescue efforts if the government uses it to help families of same-sex couples. If this is a matter of concern to you, do NOT ( Read more... )

I've searched long and hard and I can't find anything that confirms that. It seems to me that it maybe just a rumor, and that's no reason to deter people from donating to an organization that is helping thousands of people in need.

heh. if i found out it were true i would not donate to them. the "rumor" if it is that, says htey will NOT be helping people if they are worried about helping same sex couples. But I hope you are right and it IS just a rumor. It sounds kind of like one, doesn't it?

Yeah I just don't trust anything until I see it in the AP or Reuters. However, even though I did donate to Salvation Army (an AP article said they were running low on funds) I don't like it when less than 100 percent of my donation goes to the actual cause. Even though they are not extracting money for admin fees in the case of Katrina, they still do it typically. United Way is the same, and the Red Cross has to pay admin fees I believe.

If you really want to help, but don't want to donate to an organization that has an agenda against any one group, and you want 100 percent of your donation to go to that cause you intended it for, donate to an chruch organization like The United Chruch of Christ (www.uc.org). Chruches usually have theere admin fees already covered, so 100 percent of donation proceeds go to the hurricane victims.

this article states:
The Salvation Army statement went on to explain that the organization "has a long history of supplying services that are heavily used by homosexuals and their families. For example, in Los Angeles, The Army has just opened a $12 million facility for the families of AIDS victims."
