I see fans say "idols are humans too!" in all sorts of potentially wank-y places to defend dumb things their idols have done, and I've come to the conclusion that the term has gotten distorted

this reminds me of the whole incident where there was an all-out fandom war between K(A)T-TUN fans and what was called the "Jinpologists"
things have really gotten out of hand again recently I feel and especially with Japan hyping the idol thing to the max it even gives birth to really crazy fan delusions...I think on R no Housou they went around to ask people if they thought that (girl)idol farts smelled like strawberries...a lot of people thought it was true while some people were appalled that people actually thought that idols could fart.
(even Kitayama joked that even after 3 days of not taking a shower in India he "smelled like flowers because I am an idol")
I don't know when it started that idols were lifted to some kind of "higher species" status but I hope it stops soon /).(\
fans should realize that not everything they do is good and awesome or for a reason. accept stupidity and live with the consequences, flaws or whatever comes out of it if you so wish. but do not try to explain or apologize them away :X

when I came to JE from kpop, the thing I really liked about it was that the idols were... people. we saw them grow up (via Shokura, etc) and saw them make mistakes/be awkward onstage, and they were allowed to be shy and not talk much on TV (like Ryo) if that was their personality... YOU&J pushed the ~sparkly idol~ thing more than senpai and jrs did, which is why I ended up being mostly not in YOU&J fandoms XD;
