Here are tracks 11 - 20 of my Snoopy! The Musical Soundtrack/ WLIIA drabble series. Also, there is a special message at the end of this post about my Affirmation Series.
“Where Did That Little Dog Go?” (2:28)
(US Season 5)
Greg could see it. Colin saw it, too. Drew couldn’t see it, neither could Wayne or Kathy. Brad saw bits of it as well, but Chip couldn’t see it as well. Even the audience started to see it.
Ryan was starting to grow tired of doing the show. Hell, they all were. It just wasn’t the same as it used to be.
There were so many limitations to everything they did. There were things they couldn’t say, things they couldn’t do, which Greg hated with a passion. Ryan and Colin were always paired up, which was really growing stale, and Greg was hardly on due to his vulgarity. Ryan and Colin wanted to work with different pairings, but the producers nixed it, saying they were perfect.
Greg sighed; remembering what it was like back in the 90’s. He wished he could go back to that time. Hardly any limitations, but only a few things you can’t say or do. There was also more of a variety of people to work with, not just the same regular group. He missed the friendly banter with Clive, even if it was sometimes repetitive. He missed his old friends in England. He even missed the censors across the pond.
But like that one guy said (Greg couldn’t remember the name) “You can’t go home again.”
And it sucked. It sucked really badly.
“Dime A Dozen” (2:03)
(US Season 3)
Jeff Davis was thrilled to be able to work with them. He always thought he was pretty cleaver and quick-minded, so when he was asked to do the show, how could he resist.
Wayne loved him the moment he stepped in, calling his adorable and silly. Colin almost took him under his wing, claiming he was going to teach him everything. Drew thought he was brilliant, and thought he would bring in a new audience. Laura blushed several shades of red when he entered the room.
Ryan, however, didn’t like him at first. After seeing him, Ryan muttered something under his breath and left. Jeff didn’t know what he said until Colin told him.
“These kids think they’ve got it, they’re just a dime-a-dozen.”
Jeff vowed to prove himself to Ryan, and to earn his respect.
That night, Jeff showed his talents for Ryan. First were his impressions, including his accurate Christopher Walken and his laughable Arnold. He then debut his singing talents with Wayne. Finally, at the end, he made Ryan chuckle with how he owned Drew in Foreign Film Dub.
After taping, Ryan came up to Jeff and said only three words.
“Not bad, rookie.”
Jeff took that as a compliment.
“Daisy Hill” (3:16)
(2006)
They all had memories from their first shows.
Josie remembered how bad the set looked in the taping of the pilot episode. She remembered how nervous everyone was, especially Clive. She remembered her first song, her first game, and her first laugh. She was glad that the series was picked up and lasted as long as it did.
Paul remembered the World’s Worst game and how he barely said anything. He remembered Josie’s dress, Richard’s awfully bad haircut, and that he got “caught” in his zipper during Sound effects with Archie. What he remembered most was when Clive hit the buzzer by accident, he just had to rag on him. He was glad he and Clive still remained friends.
Tony remembered the laughter from his first dirty comment. He remembered his first line in Authors, his first Party Quirk, and his “First Condom” joke. The thing he remembered most was when he walked onstage with Paul in their first game together. He felt a connection form, a bond. He was glad to become his close friend.
Sandi and Ryan remembered how well they worked off each other in their first game. They both remembered the “Dog film” style, the game of tag which was a sequel to the “date” and they remembered Worlds Worst and their jokes. They were both glad to form great bonds with their friends. Ryan still jokes about how awkward they looked together.
Colin remembered how no one laughed at his actions in World’s Worst. He remembered working with Sandi, Tony sticking his hands into his pockets and pulling out the comb, and Mike making him laugh. He was glad Ryan stood up for him and made his second appearance a lasting one.
Clive remembered the joy watching them perform before him. He remembered the arguments, the jokes, and the friendship. He never realized until much later how much he missed it.
“When Do The Good Things Start?” (3:55)
(UK - end of Season 4)
Another season completed; another wrap party.
Everyone was doing their own thing, from getting hammered to singing on-stage with the karaoke machine.
Ryan and Colin hung out together, talking about their wives and children. They share a laugh after a funny story Colin brings up. There is a deep closeness between the two that is obvious, but no one tells the two.
Mike entertains with his singing. Josie accompanies him on occasion, but usually waits for her turn to belt out the latest hit. They have the friendship of comedians and singers.
Jim and Steve hung out together, talking about the latest taping and the latest incidents. They bring up some of the newer talent the producers were looking at and wonder how long they were going to last. Theirs is a bond of friendship, similar to Ryan and Colin’s.
Steve Frost finds a spot next to Richard, who was watching Josie. He gently ribs him for the dopey smile on his face. Richard responds with a glare and the emptying of his beer onto Steve’s Hawaiian shirt. There is a tolerance between them, one that is strained. Despite this, they are still friends.
Tony, Paul, and Caroline sit together, laughing and smiling. Stephen and Hugh sit next to Tony, bringing up stories from their past involving Tony while Paul does his own story telling in his dead pan style. There is a strong friendship between them, but there’s a special light in Tony’s eyes when he stares at Paul.
Clive watches everyone interact by himself, smiling softly. These were the moments he loved: everyone behaving normally and not being pressured to act a certain way around the cameras.
“What’chya doin’ sitting alone, Mr. A?” A familiar voice asked from nearby. Clive glanced up and sighed. It was Greg, his banter partner. He walks with a slight sway, alerting him that Greg was slightly intoxicated.
“Wondering when the good things start.” Clive answered plainly. Greg plopped next to him.
“Right now.” Greg laughed, and then Clive felt warm lips touch his. This was a special bond. One he would never toss away. This was love.
“Entr'Acte” (1:54)
(UK Season 7)
Ryan took a moment to straighten out his shirt before returning to the stage. The breaks in between taping weren’t long, but long enough to take a quick piss break and he’d been holding it in for a while.
As he walked he saw him. Tony. Shuffling around nervously, rubbing his nose for the 14th time since taping started. Ryan frowned, remembering how off he’d been this season. He looked preoccupied, nervous… unwell.
Tony noticed him and shot a weak smile before going back onstage.
“Tony…?” Ryan began, making Tony turn back to face him, obvious startled. “You ok?” Ryan didn’t like Tony as much as he did Colin or Greg, but he was still his friend.
“Oh, yeah, I’m fine.” Tony replied hastily.
Ryan knew he was lying, but he didn’t know why. Before he got the chance, the two were ushered back onstage to continue the taping.
The talk was left unfinished.
“The Great Writer” (6:03)
(Late 2006 *ties in with Affirmation*)
There were many advantages in doing improv. One of the main things was that you didn’t have to rely on a script when doing a skit. That’s where the spontaneity comes in, where something happens that you never expected to say or do.
The four girls had asked them what were some of their favorite random moments that happened on Whose Line. There were some awkward sighs, but everyone soon came up with their favorite moments.
Ryan and Colin mentioned their first kiss in Narrate, which prompted several “Duh!” comments from the peanut gallery. Colin noted he practically prompted Ryan to do it. Ryan countered with “Yeah, but I could’ve done something else.” Colin asked “Like what”, causing Ryan to whisper something to him, making Colin turn several shades of red.
Greg brought up in retaliation his banter with Clive. He added “That’s what I missed about doing the shows there.” Julie muttered something about the censors being another thing he probably missed and Melissa then asked the big question that nearly made Greg faint: Was the banter between you and Clive all foreplay??
Greg chased the blonde out of the room.
Brad blushed badly when the “Snatch” incident came up. He covered his face in embarrassment like he did when he said it years ago. He then said “It’s a weight lifting term!” which prompted several eye rolls and a loud laugh from Colin.
Wayne covered his face when Drew mentioned the “Melissa incident”. Samantha was confused at first until Julie confirmed that it wasn’t their friend, who was hiding in the bathroom from Greg. Chip started cracking up when Colin brought up Ryan’s hoedown verses that kept referencing the incident.
Chip’s laughter faltered when Ryan mentioned the time Chip “Broke” him and also Chip’s slipup during “Mel Gibson and the Wrestler/Professor” title sequence. Chip then frantically repeated his apology for what he did to Ryan.
Jeff blushed when he said his was his first episode, including the touchdown with the baby in Scenes from a Hat. Alicia giggled at Jeff’s embarrassment. Colin just beamed and patted Jeff’s back “Taught him everything he knows”.
Drew groaned when Greg, who finally re-joined the group, brought up several of Drew’s moments, including the “Africa is a country” blooper. Drew in retaliation then noted the revenge he got on the glasses wearing man. Julie and Alicia then noted that Greg looked like he enjoyed being a stripper.
Trying to avoid another fight, Samantha asked Josie the question. Josie blushed, covered her face, and muttered “The times when Tony had to be my hands”. Tony grinned boyishly as Ryan recalled one incident involving Tony pulling out a tampon and tried to make Josie smoke it. Josie’s face grew redder and tried to hide her face further into her hands.
It was Tony’s turn to blush when Paul and Mike mentioned a few of Tony’s moments, including the “Chippendale” dance and Tony’s cursing out Clive. Alicia burst into laughter as Julie blushed and Greg remarked “DAMN, the two incidents I wanted to see in person!” with a pout. Paul shot a glare at him that made him shiver.
Paul remarked his favorite moment was when Sandi verbally bitch slapped Clive during Freeze Tag. That got Mike laughing and Sandi grinning, and then responded with “That’s one of my favorite ones, too.” Mike added that was one his favorites, along with the Little Bo Peep news report, which he laughed in slight embarrassment about.
Greg then asked the younger women, including Melissa who finally joined them, what theirs were.
All they said was “EVERYTHING!”, prompting lots of laughter.
“Poor Sweet Baby” (3:19)
The original drabble: (Late UK, early US)
Ryan crept into the room, trying not to disturb Colin, who was still sleeping.
The TV was still on, showing the credits of the movie he was watching - “Snoopy! The Musical.”
Ryan couldn’t help but chuckle as he sat down next to him.
“Colin?” he asked softly. No response. Ryan grinned and pulled Colin closer, letting Colin’s head rest on his shoulder. “Poor sweet baby.” He whispered, kissing Colin’s earlobe softly.
“Hm? Wha?” Colin stirred, waking up.
“Don’t worry, Chuck, it’s just your Peppermint Patty.” Ryan soothed.
“Mm, my sweet baboo.” Colin smiled, snuggling into Ryan’s chest, and sighed peacefully.
New version: (UK season 10)
They didn’t expect that to be the choice of the next hoedown. Sure they’ve been joking about including some of his little quirks into the show due to the convention the other day, but to do a hoedown about him?
A Hoedown about Colin? Ryan thought. Now this would be interesting.
Greg started off first, singing in a nasally voice about being like him. He didn’t finish his last verse all the way and promptly walked about, doing his impression of a dinosaur.
Phil was next and gave Colin some props for being a talented performer. He threw in a bald joke to ease his bets.
Colin grinned in hesitation, prompting some laughs from the audience. He talked about how amusing everyone was singing about him. He ended with a pun of his last name by stating “Look at them, look at them; of me they're making a Mochrie!”
Ryan smiled inwardly before singing. He knew what to say about Colin. Exactly how he felt about him.
“You got to love Colin, love him to the end. I have to admit that he is my best friend. I would not lie to you, this is no jive; anyway you look at it, he's still got more hair than Clive!” he sang with confidence and such honesty. He turned slightly as he, Greg, and Phil sang the last line together. Colin didn’t sing with them, all he did was stare at Ryan, tears stinging his big brown eyes, a grateful look on his face.
Ryan suddenly saw Colin lunge forward him, tears in his eyes, and Ryan did the first thing that came to his mind. He embraced him tightly, the two almost merging together into one.
Years from then, there would be talk about his verse about him. Ryan would just smile in remembrance and restate what he had said in the hoedown. Colin was, indeed, his best friend.
“Don't Be Anything Less Than Everything You Can Be” (2:47)
(UK Season 9)
Eight years.
It had been eight years since he was on this stage last.
A lot of things have changed since his last appearance. No John Sessions. No Peter Cook. Josie, Clive and Richard look different. Ryan and Colin, two new faces to work with.
Stephen took a deep breath before stepping forward with Josie. It had been so long since he was here, doing improv like this.
Clive read out the scene and the possible styles for the game. He recognized the game - “Film and Theatre styles.” He smiled slightly, remembering when he did this game for the first time on this stage. That was still long ago, before a lot of changes happened on the show.
He let Josie start off first, allowing him to slowly get back into the groove. It was a simple scene: Josie hijacking his plane. It was starting simple enough. Both he and Josie had worked well together before, and it seemed that it was still the same.
Then Clive read the next style: Bill and Ben. He blanked. What was that?
After a quick (and jokingly) comment and with a bit of Josie’s help, he got it.
He snuck behind her, ready to think of something after his “Flub dubba Cuba” comment. After Josie made another “Flub dubba” comment, he said the first thing that popped into his head.
“Weed!”
The audience cracked up. Stephen couldn’t help but smile; it may have been eight years, but he was back.
“The Big Bow-Wow” (3:24)
(Early-mid US)
Colin was embarrassed when he heard about it. It wasn’t something to really brag about with a lot of pride, but it was still a pretty good honor. Once everyone else learned about it, there were mixed reactions, but most of them were forms of “Congratulations.”
Colin was one of the few Whose Line performers to make front page and NOT because he was in some trouble. (Ryan muttered something that sounded like “Like Tony fucking Slattery” under his breath.)
Greg casually ribbed him for the honor, saying that Colin got the honor for being the cute one. Brad gave the Canadian a friendly slap on the back while congratulating him, saying it was about time something like this happened. Chip and Wayne both gave him a big hug and congratulated him. Kathy and Laura both said that it was a big honor to make it on the front page and both gave him a friendly kiss on the cheek.
Colin felt more on the spot during the taping of the show after the newspaper came out. During the introduction of one episode they were taping, Drew decided to do something about Colin’s appearance in the newspaper.
“Before we get the show rolling, I’d like to show this great headline we got from the Desert News Week, TV week…” Drew said as he then pulled the newspaper with the headline out, showing it to everyone. Drew then read the headline out, “‘Colin Mochrie, pictured here, is the zany host of the clear- cleaver and witty British Game show ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’ so congratulations, Colin.”
“Oh thank you.” Colin blushed as the audience cheered. He then felt a warm hand on his shoulder.
He turned, knowing his touch, and smiled at Ryan, who once again congratulated him. This made Colin feel more proud than he did before.
The moment ended when Drew commanded that he never pull a stunt like that ever again.
“Just One Person/Bows” (3:33)
(2006)
All it takes is one person to make a difference. One person to do something to make a change. To save a life.
Tony knew how that felt. How it took one person to change him. He remembered waking up in the hospital, bandages around his wrists, and that one person sleeping next to his bed, clinging to his hand. He couldn’t remember how he got there at that time, but when that person told him…
Tony shuddered at those memories. How alone, how screwed up he felt, how close he was to… He was sick, and needed help. Problem was back then; he didn’t know and didn’t care.
Then, he came. The one who broke the door down. The one who told him to get help. The one who saved him. It was just one person, but he saved his life.
Tony smiled, remembering the warmth of his touch. His smile, his gentle blue eyes, the soothing sound of his voice…
He smile faded when he remembered what happened afterwards. How he couldn’t tell him how he felt.
Tony gave a sigh, changed the channel and smiled softly; on the tv was that person, the man who saved him. His smile got bigger as he watched him interact with, and occasionally rib and crack up over, Boris Johnson.
The phone ringing interrupted his thoughts. When he answered, he was surprised who was talking to him and what she said.
Ryan, Colin, Greg, and four others held hostage? Missing? In danger? Need help? Alicia’s message was hurried and filled with much fear, but Tony agreed to meet her in a half an hour. He almost didn’t catch her saying that she was contacting him as well.
Tony froze after hanging up. How can he see him after what happened?
He placed his hand on the television screen when he appeared.
“I’ll see you soon, Paul. Thank you… my love.” Tony whispered. With a click, he turned it off and left to meet Alicia.
And that is it for my drabbles.
Now, for my Affirmation fanfic, I have started working on typing the Prequel to "Affirmation", which is called, at this moment, "Against All Odds". This will focus on the time before the story takes place, and will primarly focus on Tony and Paul, specifically their relationship and Tony's depression, which was mentioned a few times during "Affirmation". This was actually one of the first ideas of a WLIIA fanfic I wanted to do, but went with the Affirmation Story instead. There will be plenty of angst and have some more Stephen Fry, more Tony and Paul, references to HIGNFY, and sthe ending will make reference to the sequel to "Affirmation", which I finished hand writing in my notebooks. I will post a preview of my prequel fic once I've done some more with it.
So stay tuned for my Prequel fic, once I've been able to finish most of it.
