Back from my vacation. Had a lot of fun, but it's great to be back. Like I promised, here are some Behind the Scenes information of my Affirmation story:
First, here is how my dream originally went:
The basis is that some crazy Anti-Whose Line Girl kidnaps Ryan, Colin, Drew, Wayne, Greg, Brad and Chip and does some kind of karma attack/torture on them based on 'the horrible things they've done' or something along those lines.
The karma bits were:
Drew: Some kind of sight deprivement visor thing that weakens his eyesight.
Wayne/Brad/Chip - collars that limited their speaking capabilities (or something)
Greg: V-Chip - He swears, he gets shocked.
Ryan/Colin: They're knocked up/pregnant - pregnancy is speed up so one day = one month. Also, they are getign weak because of it.
The end result was a giant fight between us Whosers and the evil chick's 'cronies', which were some kind of earth blobs in the first dream but became a bunch fo guards in the later version of it. I DO remember that all of us fans had the 'powers' of the Superheroes the guys have played and that Jeff, Tony, Josie, Mike and several UK whose Line alumni's I can't remember were with us whosers.
It ends with these things happening:
The fans kicked ass.
The evil girl is defeated along with her cronies.
Everyone but Colin and Ryan are freed from their 'karma attacks'.
Ryan and Colin go into labor and have their kids, don't know what gender of the babies were.
Then I woke up, wondering what the hell was that.
Next, The trio's bios:
Name: Julie Sanders
Age: 20
Race: White/American
Hair: Short, mud brown hair - to her shoulders
Eyes: Brown - wears thin, rectangular shaped gold plated glasses
Height: 5’4
Weight: 165
Occupation: College student
Likes: Whose Line, anime, the 80’s, music, drawing, writing stories, acting and many other things
Dislikes/fears: Death, guns, violence towards children, flying…
Bad habits: Bites fingernails, swears, sometimes doesn’t think when she speaks, a worrywart, cares too much
Notes:
Her mother, Janet, works at a law office as a secretary, while her father, Robert, is an appliance tech rep. Both care a lot about her and end up helping her during the story.
Has an older brother, Will, who is a physics graduate, a former student of Tai Kwon Do, and a computer whiz. He shares her love for Whose Line, but not to her level of love.
She recently lost her paternal grandmother before the start of the story, so she is worried about death and/or losing someone she cares about.
Does a lot of impressions and acts out scenes from movies, TV and stories she read and writes about.
Due to the fact she’s on the computer a lot, she knows a lot of trivia and weird things, thus giving her an advantage on certain subjects.
She is an Art Major with an English minor.
She has been friends with Sam since Middle school, so she knows her much more than Melissa, whom she met in high school.
She is a big Whose Line fan. She has seen almost every episode that she can find. She also is a fan of trivia about the performers on the show and loves any information on them. Her favorite guys are Ryan, Colin, Greg, and Tony (whom she blushes a lot around) and she idolizes Josie.
She is a slash fanatic. Any signs of a hint of a relationship, she’ll find it. When it comes to whose line, her pairings are Ryan/Colin, Greg/anyone (Especially either Tony or Jeff), Tony/Paul, and (even though they’re not technically Whose Line players) Stephen/Hugh.
Because of her terrible fear of death, she has a tendency to worry a lot about the plans everyone, especially those that Melissa comes up with in the story.
She tends to see the realistic aspects in things. She tries to find out if what someone does might be realistic and able to do. This causes her to clash with Melissa when it comes with planning to save the guys.
Name: Samantha London
Age: 20
Race: White/American
Hair: Short, jet black hair - cut to her chin
Eyes: blue-green - wears glasses similar to Julie, but blue and gold
Height: 5’3
Weight: 205
Occupation: College student/part time at McDonalds
Likes: Animals, horse racing, anime, music, drawing, writing stories, whose line and many other things
Dislikes/fears: Death, violence, certain levels of porn…
Bad habits: Cares too much, a bit of a worrywart, sometimes don’t understand certain things in the story
Notes:
Her father works as a traveling salesman while her mother works at a marketing business office.
Keeps the whole situation from her parents the best she can, but everything gets revealed in the end to them.
She is an only child, which isn’t a problem to her.
She has been friends with Julie since Middle school, so she knows her much more than Melissa.
She is a Communications and Rhetoric’s Major and an English Minor.
She is a giant animal lover. She always catches horse races and any dog shows that are on TV.
She isn’t a huge Whose Line fan, but she likes the show. She likes Greg due to his sarcasm and befriends Drew since he is the most ‘sane’ of the group.
She doesn’t mind slash, but doesn’t completely support it as much as Julie and Melissa do. She, however, is fond of Ryan/Colin and Greg/Jeff.
She is the only one of the trio that is the most ‘sane’ and the most rational thinker of the group. She tends to agree with Julie’s realistic thinking, which causes friction with Melissa.
Name: Melissa Anderson
Age: 21
Race: White/American
Hair: long, honey blonde hair - reaches to her naval
Eyes: hazel
Height: 4’8
Weight: 105
Occupation: College student/part time at College book store
Likes: Animals, Whose Line, music, photography, singing…
Dislikes/fears: death, being alone, bugs, rape…
Bad habits: Naïve, a bit brash, states her opinion too much, boy-crazy, hyper
Notes:
Her Dad, Lennie, is an Albany PD Detective first class, so she knows a lot about law and order. Her mom, however, was a police officer, and was killed two-three years ago, so she also knows the dangers of being an officer.
Older sister, Christine, is a nurse, as is Christine’s best friend, Dana Martinez- both are huge Whose Line fans, but only of the US version.
Her pen pal, Alicia Hardy, has an Aunt who worked for the British version of Whose Line
Met both Sam and Julie late in High school, so she doesn’t know them as much as they know each other
Often sings when she is nervous
She is a Judicial Law major and theater minor.
She LOVES Whose Line! She has seen EVERY Episode EVER MADE and shown. She knows a shit load of information on anyone who has been on both versions. She loves Brad, Wayne, Chip, and Jeff from the US and Tony and Mike on the UK. She idolizes Josie, Sandi, and Caroline and loathes Kathy Greenwood. She also has a crush on Brad that escalates in the story.
She likes Slash, but not as much as Julie does. She is, however, a fan of Greg/Tony, Greg/Jeff, Ryan/Colin, Wayne/Chip, and Josie/Sandi.
And Now, The things that were cut from the original:
-First chapter has hardly any changes - only thing is there is no Ry-Col slash. Some grammatical changes were also made to fix up some problems. Lark Tavern is a real place in Albany. Kylie Griffin is based on the “Extreme Ghostbusters” character of the same name. The chat room has several in-jokes to various Whose Line related things and non whose Line things. For example:
Tonylver3285 - Tony Lover is self explanatory. 3285 was just random numbers I picked. Tonylver is also, apparently, a Tony/Greg shipper
Whosergal10 - self explanatory. The 10 is random. Whosergal is a (possible) Tony/Paul shipper.
Ryanishot - obligatory fan girl name, she LOVES Ryan and a nOOb.
Hoedownhero - spoof off of “Hometown Hero”, an insert song from The Real Ghostbusters. A bit serious and obviously a Greg/Clive shipper.
Fryforprimeminister - Stephen Fry is totally awesome. He’d be an interesting Prime Minister… This person is a Brit-line fan.
Clivesdaughter - That’s Melissa. Joke on her last name being Anderson
ColinsMeow - Based on the “Meow” running gag from Whose Line. She is also a more realistic thinker and non-slasher.
Karma - That’s Lolita.
I just love how the conversation just degenerates from wondering if “Karma” was telling the truth to shipper wars, like how most topics tend to become…
Lolita was also made to be a bit more mean and realistic during the hostage bit.
-Second chapter starts off the same way with introducing the female trio. Julie is based on myself, Sam is my best friend Samantha, and Melissa is just amalgam of various folks from the WTATA forum and the Livejournal clubs. The talk about Whose Line in the basement is pretty much the same, but with some few changes. Melissa is the one who brings up the Penis/baby learning to walk PQ, not Julie, and Sam remembers the “Fuck Off” incident which Julie then describes.
The discovery of Greg is changed a little bit to be more realistic (including adding Julie’s small panic attack after realizing it was Greg) and fix up a little mistake where I forget to mention it was him that was singing to Melissa. I also edited a little bit where Sam mentions an Irish Drinking song Julie did with her brother that didn’t go far.
The room, itself was changed from off-yellow to gray-blue. Drew also speaks again before the reveal of the others in the room in the original. I also added the limit of words Wayne, Chip, and Brad can only say. Melissa originally only asks if Lolita was a “Friends” freak, but it was changed to add “Survivor reruns”. “Bring me the head of Charlie Brown” is a real thing. Look it up, but if you have a weak stomach, it might not be your thing. Julie’s reaction to Colin’s “problem” was changed a bit. I also add a description of the fic Julie mentions to Sam. The Colin reveal is pretty much the same as well with a few mini edits.
-Third Chapter had some minor changes, but didn’t stray from the plot. Colin originally narrates all the flashbacks in V.O. There are also no hints of Ry/Col slash in the chapter, but the hug between Ryan and Colin was there, but it was a friendship hug. There is also a change of time frame during the flashback where only a day passed when Ryan and Colin were unconscious instead of two, which is what it’s changed to in order to be more realistic. Julie and Melissa originally fight because Melissa was flirting with Brad instead of listening to the story. It is now changed to about alerting the police after seeing an example of the V-chip in action, which wasn’t in the original. In the flashback reveal, Lolita had a few more lines and Brad had an extra line as shown here:
Lolita: I’m making you go through a speed-up version of something women go through. Something you reference in your games on occasion.
Ryan and Colin look at each other in fear.
Brad: Menopause?
Lolita: NO!!
Wayne slaps Brad upside the head.
And it goes back to the newly changed bit.
Melissa’s denial and revelation is still the same with the few minor grammatical edits. Brad’s dialogue during the Paparatzi talk is altered to mention Lolita. Ryan’s awakening is still the same, but there is a few changes where Julie, Melissa and Sam, in their introductions (which are done individually) reveal which Whose Line guy they are like in personality. This was edited because it didn’t really fit into the story. The girls leaving part has a few edits in dialogue, but nothing too drastic. Ryan’s small breakdown is only minor, but made a bit more major with some Ry/Col slash inserted to it. Finally, Melissa’s little plan is her idea instead of her pen pal’s, who is revealed later. A cut bit involves Julie getting Melissa’s instant message with the photos and she has to explain to her family the deal with the images. This was cut and put into a dialogue mention in the next part.
-Fourth chapter starts with a minor edit where Janet isn’t with Julie in the original, but was added in the revision. The “Sherman Tank” joke is a reference to the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Julie’s family is, indeed, my family and yes, my brother DOES dress up like Indiana Jones on occasion. There are some minor dialogue edits and revisions, which also cut a snippet where Robert calls Julie a childish nickname: “Juju”.
The rest follows pretty much the same with only a few minor changes to include Janet into the fray. Will’s reaction to Ryan and Colin’s condition was a bit more subdued in the original. There are also inserted scenes where the guys are introduced to Julie’s family and Brad’s reaction to the poker set. The poker game and side conversation is pretty much the same with a few minor changes to add in Janet and fix some little bits. Julie’s “Tabloids” talk was a bit different where she spoke in a faux French accent which caused some stares from everyone (it was an in-joke to the Sonic the Hedgehog comic). The rest of the scene follows the same with the few minor edits. Melissa’s email back from Alicia (who is called Alice in the original) is pretty much the same, but the neighbor’s reaction was expanded to add a little joke to finish the chapter. The phone call from her father isn’t in the original and was added to start the big change in the revision.
-Fifth Chapter starts the big edits and changes. The first big change is Melissa’s depression, which wasn’t in the original. The second big change was the off-screen deaths of Pat and Deb, which were added to create drama and add more to the dangerous mind of Lolita. Ryan and Colin going into false labor was in the original, but the cause was never mentioned. Greg’s slight breakdown wasn’t in the original, but Julie’s revelation of her grandmother’s death is there. Melissa’s phone call is still there, but her argument with Julie isn’t. There is also a second poker game that was cut due to the plot change.
The next big change was that Sam wasn’t at the Sander’s house in the original. The scene were Julie and Sam hide in the bathroom isn’t there either. In the original, Julie is in a state of depression and listening to music on her headphones when Melissa arrives with the Brit-line players. Mike and Robert becoming pals is still there as is Melissa covering Julie’s eyes when she makes her meet Tony. Also, there is a change in the six rescuers. Instead of Paul and Sandi, Steve Frost and Caroline are there. This was changed due to the fact it was hard to write the latter two, I preferred Sandi over Caroline, and I became a bigger fan of Paul due to watching him on “Have I Got News for You”. There is also a change in how Julie reacts in seeing Tony, which went from fan girl freak-out to tearful happiness. Unfortunately, this cut out a cute scene when Melissa removes the bandanna from Julie’s eyes:
Julie yanks the bandanna off and gasps.
Julie: HOLY SHIT!!
Tony: Sorry, my name isn’t “Holy Shit”. Nice try. (Grins)
Kinda lame, but I thought it was cute.
Jeff playing with the dog is added to create a little cute Jeff-ness scene and the addition of Alicia is in the revision because “Alice’s” appearance in the next part was a bit unexplained. There is also a big edit where Julie and Melissa introduce the new arrivals to Julie’s family, which was just a long run-on bit that just took up too much space.
-the sixth chapter has a big change in the first half. The addition of Tony’s depression reference wasn’t mentioned in the original and some of Julie’s conversation with Tony is edited and moved to the next chapter. The addition of Tony and Paul’s relationship was added due to me falling in love with the pairing and spotting some ‘subtext’ in some of their scenes on Whose Line. Tony kissing Paul - the whole bit came to me one night before I went to sleep and I fell in love with it. The bit before Tony and Paul’s conversation - most of Julie and Tony’s original conversation - may become a deleted scene to be added in the prequel for this story I am currently working on.
The planning scene has a few changes. The addition of Sam and Alicia, the changing of cast from Steve and Caroline to Paul and Sandi, and the deaths of Pat and Deb called for some changes in dialogue placement and edits to fit the changes. Besides that, most of the dialogue is the same with a few edits. The revelations of what Lolita did to the guys are still the same with only a few minor changes. The photos are just in file format in the original and not a PowerPoint like it is now, and the addition of an artist interpretation of Lolita is added to the revision. The reaction to Ryan and Colin’s pregnancy is pretty much the same, though, including Jeff’s reaction. The explanation of the two’s problem and the revelation that Ryan and Colin might die has a few changes to be more believable and to add in some of the small plot changes. Mike’s question about calling the cops and the answers are changed to fit in with the 2006 timeline. Melissa’s revelation of her plan is also the same with a few minor changes, including the in-joke Sam makes.
-Chapter Seven brings back some of the Julie-Tony conversation that was cut, but it ends up leading to a Tony-Paul hook up. Jeff’s little dream was a quick thing that came to me when I was re-writing the story. The whole ice cream talk came at night when my dad bought some ice cream during the winter and I was writing it while eating ice cream. The kisses and the naughtiness came later at night, leading to some silly comments.
-The eighth chapter has some of the BIGGEST changes of all time. The introducing of Detective Lennie Anderson, who was in homage to Detective Lennie Brisco/Jerry Orbach from Law and Order, came earlier than it did in the original. Stabler and Benson are from Law and Order SVU and Curtis is from the regular Law and Order. Curtis wasn’t in the original and Lennie, Benson and Stabler came in the next chapter. They were introduced earlier due to the fact that I felt the whole rescue operation was too unbelievable, so I had Sam tell her parents about the situation and her parents call Lennie. Melissa’s little OOC actions are new and added to show her frustration and naiveté over the fact that she thinks the plan will work. Her outburst and Julie’s reactions were also added to add to the already growing tension between the two.
The first part of the rescue - Mike, Sandi, Melissa and Sam getting the guys out is one of the few things that are still the same. Adding in Benson and Stabler is the only big change to it.
Paul, Jeff, Alicia, and Julie’s scenes up to the Lolita fight are new. Originally, Mike was supposed to be with Jeff, Julie and Alicia, but with the addition of Paul and the Tony/Paul ship, this was changed. The John Sessions in-joke was added when I had started typing. Alicia’s roll was expanded a bit in the trick the guard scene.
Curtis’s group was originally supposed to shut off the video cameras and another character - Will’s friend Mike - was added to help shut off the emergency systems. This was changed and cut due to the fact there were too many characters. Also, Josie and Tony were the ones who strayed from the group to help Julie’s group in the original, as does Greg, who leaves later.
The Lolita fight was altered greatly as were the scenes afterwards. Originally, the good guys get to Lolita, trying to make her change her mind. Then Tony and Josie came in and the four guards, all who are based on the new guys in "Extreme Ghostbusters", began to fight back against Lolita. Greg actually is the one who stops Lolita by knocking her out with a telephone that was in the room and quotes:
“Not so tough without your guards, aren’tcya?”
The quote was a reference to the movie “Kindergarten Cop” from near the end of the movie.
The guards then tell the good guys, as they stop the machine and tie up Lolita that they originally wanted to stop her days ago, but Julie, Melissa and Sam’s interactions with the guys put their plans on hold. Also Ryan and Colin regained consciousness when Greg, Will, Julie and Alicia freed them.
Afterwards, Lolita came to outside and Melissa’s sister and her friend: Christine and Dana reveal Lolita/Lita’s back-story. Lolita goes on a rant and is stopped by ALL Whose Line guys planting giant kisses on her, breaking her brain and causing her to randomly quote and act out Whose Line scenes. …Yeah.
Inside the building, Chris and Dana remove the visor, the collars and the v-chip, and announce that Ryan and Colin need to get to the hospital immediately. In the mist of it is the Melissa and Brad almost kiss that Greg interrupts. Colin then proceeds to have a freak-out, slaps Ryan across the face, and leaves the building. Brad, Dana, and Julie run after Colin, creating this homage to “Lost World: Jurassic Park”:
Brad: Colin!
Dana: Colin!
Julie: Colin!
Dana: Colin Mochrie!
Julie: (glares) How many Colin’s do you think are on this campus, Dana?
Julie spots Colin in the distance and sees he is in pain. Running over, they discover he is in labor and Julie calls the gang on her cell phone. Sam gets worried about people noticing what’s going on. Ryan then goes into labor due to the stress and Julie snaps and goes on a rant until she notices that a large crowd has formed. Lennie is finally introduced and an ambulance shows up. Everyone heads to the hospital and Lennie bring the guards and Lolita to jail.
Phew! I got rid of over twenty pages worth of stupid and unbelievable crap in the end!
-Chapter 9 at the hospital has also undergone a major face-lift. The scenes with everyone in the waiting room were longer, had a few more stupid jokes, and Pat and Deb being brought over with Stabler and Benson. There whole bits were edited out and replaced with some of the things that happened in the last chapter that were cut out including Julie’s freak out and Melissa and Brad nearly kissing. Christine is also dropped, but Dana makes an appearance in Ryan and Colin’s recovery room. There is also more slash between Tony and Paul and Ryan and Colin and Jeff manages to kiss Greg, which is not in the original. Tony counting the ceiling tiles was originally Ryan, but was changed due to the re-write.
-The epilogue is changed a bit and set later. Cut is “Alice” re-telling how Greg stopped Lolita, Melissa still trying to flirt with Brad, and the four girls singing “Walk this Way”. There is also an end scene which fast forwards to May where Brad and Colin are doing their show and get some audience members to perform with them. The audience members are Julie and Melissa. All of this is cut, except for the fact there is a celebration-party at the end.
That is all I have to post until I choose what I do first: the Prequel or the Sequel. I will post the information on those later on.
