So, continuing with the toilet theme LOL  I'm not sure how many of y'all know what a squat toilet is, although you guys could probably figure that out pretty easily.  A lot of the public toilets in Japan (and Taiwan) provide both squat and western toilets and they even give us handy signs:  a bathroom in the airport

Yay, more photologue! Seconding the comment yesterday re: the fun of vicarious travel.

Japan turns out to be much more...elegant, is I think the word I want. In most cases, anyway. There's something really endearing about a culture that contains both spare and graceful places of worship and manhole covers featuring firefighters as interpreted by Fisher-Price. :)

The girls in traditional dress are interesting, too. Lovely to look at, but I'm wondering how they get those obi (the sash) tied behind their back in such perfect poofy bows. Not something I could visualise having enough co-ordination to do every morning.

I have no idea how kiminos work. They must have someone help to put them on.

They use cartoons to explain everything like in their subway stations, on the airplane, etc.

You're very welcome! This is what I was doing, dying in the heat & humidity, while you were hanging out with Mr Dekker, lucky girl. ;P

*drums fingers impatiently*

I'm waaaaaaiting. :D But seriously, I only 500+ pictures (I didn't go too picture crazy cause my brother & dad both had cameras too).

I didn't find Japan any more expensive than here. Food is pretty cheap as is the subway system. Can't say about the hotels though cause we were part of a group tour. Of course, the big expense is gonna be the flight. And if you like shopping in designer stores ;)

Wow. So well, foreign (duh, Captain Obvious). It's amazing the mix of ancient and ultra-modern.

Isn't that intersection where the teams on Amazing Race had to find a statue of some sort? (I want to say it was a dog, I can't remember)

I parked in one of those underground/elevator parking things in Munich one time and was sure I was going to wreck the car. Crazy tight fitting.

Thanks for the pictures!

Yes, there is a statue of a dog at that intersection! Good memory! It's actually only a few feet away from where the kimino gals are standing. And we totally used it as a meeting place in cause any of us got lost.
