[MOD] Permanent Moderated Posting, Moderator Apps Open

May 15, 2012 11:42

Following much discussion and a month-long trial period, the moderators have unanimously decided to permanently implement moderated posting. This change is being implemented in order to keep the community clean, prevent entries from being deleted, and to facilitate learning rather than using punishments to reduce rule breaks.

In conjunction with this, the strikes system is being eliminated, with only significant rule breaks, such as plagiarism, being recorded and contributing to a ban. We have also streamlined the request post process, and prior approval will no longer be necessary for requests; simply submit a request using the form outlined in the request post, tag your entry with !request, and submit it to the queue. Advertisements, however, will still require prior approval.

Our purpose as a community is to facilitate the posting and sharing of fanworks, and to that effect, moderated posting uses e-mail notifications of both entry approval and rejection, ensuring communications with members to ensure that all works are posted to the community. This is a point of convenience not only for moderators, but for members as well. Rejections are always coupled with an explanation on what rules were broken and how to correct posts for resubmission. Furthermore, moderators will continue to check the community to ensure that posts on the community do not break rules; please note that we will issue comment warnings in the event that an entry that breaks the rules is accepted, and entries that are not corrected within 24 hours are still subject to deletion.

Following feedback from members, we are addressing the main complaints, entry flooding and wait time, in two ways. First, we will begin to stagger posts when the queue has a significant amount of entries (6+), submitting approximately three posts each time, with half an hour to an hour in between postings.

More significantly, to reduce occurrences of these large queues and to improve response time, we will be opening moderator applications for a short period of time. We are looking for one addition to the team; if you are interested, please read our requirements and submit an application to us.

As a mod, you will be required to do the following:

• monitor posts to shinee_replay
• issue bans if necessary
• reply to members' questions or concerns
• help organise and run contests, challenges, and exchanges
• intermittently check the mod e-mail account
• communicate with other mods regarding any issues with, suggestions for, and concerns about the community (on and off lj)

Any applicants must meet the following requirements before applying:

• have a basic knowledge of html code (you don't need to be able to code a website, but you should know how to format a post)
• have at least a year of experience on lj (in a current or other verified account, if you've recently moved accounts)
• be an active lj user by having 10 or more entries in your journal (preferably recent) AND/OR 500 or more comments posted
• be able to devote at least half an hour a day (aggregate) to moderating the community

We recommend, but do not require, having any of the following:
• previous mod experience on an lj community
• knowledge and experience using gmail and gdocs, especially of spreadsheets
• experience running writing challenges
• some knowledge in image-editing or creating graphics
