Oh, that's brilliant! *giggles* The idea that Illyan hadn't twigged who he was betaing for before is just perfect! And Miles's fanfic would be just like that!

Hee -- thanks, and glad you thought the details fit! I must confess to a few geeky moments spent wondering just what kind of analysis software Illyan has on his chip, and whether it could do author-attribution analysis. For the sake of actually being able to write the fic, I decided that he can do author-attribution but it isn't automatic, so he would have had to deliberately set out to compare MountainMan's fanfic with Miles's Dendarii reports before working out that it was likely the same person. ;)

Even if he had such software loaded, which he plausibly wouldn't, fanfic and report writing could be distinct enough to defeat it.
