[Ficlet] Wider Horizons

Sep 01, 2009 00:05

I've been behind on f-list posts and e-mail and comment replies for the last few days ... but instead of getting caught up tonight, I wrote this instead, heh. I guess my excuse is that I have an odd fascination for "real-time" fic ( Read more... )

I really like your title; it fits so well with Teddy off to discover very new horizons and Remus and Tonks having to learn to adjust theirs. The image of Teddy charging around with his vivid orange hair is a lovely one; even more so, when he's still young enough and thoughtful enough to want to hug everyone goodbye and worry about his dad. Though I expect Remus will feel a little guilty at making Teddy fret, it must be so nice for him to have that. And for Tonks, too, to have a son that understands.

Loved the House discussion - obviously, the Hat may have somewhat surprised Remus? ;) - and will be interested to see what you go for.

Lovely way to start September! :)

Thank you! :)

I'm so glad you mentioned the title -- it was a last-minute inspiration at the point of "I'm ready to post, but I have to call it something." And then the title led to a better ending than what I had originally.

Though I expect Remus will feel a little guilty at making Teddy fret, it must be so nice for him to have that.

I'm glad you mentioned that, too! I think that, despite his (probably inevitable) feelings of guilt about making Teddy worry, it's significant to Remus that what Teddy worries about is his father's health, not his shape. (There's a long-standing plotbunny there; ah, someday.)

obviously, the Hat may have somewhat surprised Remus? ;)

I hate to be predictable and follow common fanon, lol, but I do like the idea that Remus probably would have been Sorted somewhere like Ravenclaw if not for the effects that dealing with lycanthropy had on his character...

That was lovely! What a perfect day to post your sweet story--on September 1st. I loved when Teddy surprised his mum with his fierce hug, and the concern Teddy showed for Remus and his impending transformation.

Thank you for giving us a little glimpse of life as it "should have been" for the Lupin's if Jo hadn't decided to muck things up for them. If Remus and Tonks thoroughly enjoy themselves as they "learn to be two" again, they might end up as "four" instead of only "three".

Thanks so much for reading and letting me know you liked it!

I understand why JKR needed to have characters who didn't make it out of DH, and I even understand and appreciate the contrast between Harry and Teddy as war orphans in different eras. But so much of Lupin's character arc was about redemption that I honestly think it would have been more interesting not to kill him off. (Hence my state of denial, heh.)

I don't stray to this side of fandom too much, but I'm glad I did tonight.

This was so sweet, and a bit bittersweet as well. I admit I teared up a little thinking about what could have been with Tonks, Remus and Teddy, but I was smiling and laughing during this, too. Lovely fic.

Thank you for reading, especially if it wasn't your usual side of fandom!

I never thought I would end up writing AU ...until after DH. There are just so many interesting possibilities for how Lupin's newfound hope, and a slight trend in the series for support for more rights for non-human magical creatures, would play out after Voldemort's defeat -- if Lupin had survived.

Oh I'm such a AU fan girl! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! If R/T aren't careful, they're apt to end up being 3 again ;)

Oh, thank you! :)

I actually have a reason in mind for why Remus and Tonks don't have any other children. (Because for some psychological reason I don't understand, I can write Remus and Tonks out of being dead, but I can't bring myself to invent non-canon kids for them! Even though I like reading other people's OC kids just fine...)

Otherwise, they would certainly have a few by now, heh.

Awww this just made my morning :3 Nothing like R/T to daydream about while sitting through a biochemistry class :3 Really lovely job. I think my favorite part has to be where Teddy runs back with a hug. He's not too much of a grown up for hugs yet :) And his concern for Remus was touching and sweet. I wich I could go more in-depth, but alas I'll be late as it is, so I;ll leave you with a lovely wonderful job done! :3
