In a fit of vegetarian paranoia last Christmas, I got Robo!Turkey, which came with a device inserted that told me when it was cooked....

There are harvest festivals here, I think, although they tend to be a bit earlier in the year. At school, we'd make up baskets of food and take them out to elderly people. I always feel a bit gypped that you get two winter celebrations and we only get one....

Hee. I actually like Thanksgiving better than Christmas in some ways, because it hasn't gone nearly as commercialized. It's still mostly about going home to see your family (not that I'm doing that this year), and cooking warm comfy foods. Not a bad sort of day at all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

C of E churches have a harvest festival at the end of September. (I don't know about other churches) As far as I can remember, it mostly involves collecting food which then gets distributed among the poor, and there's a service, of course.

Thank you!

That's a nice custom to have -- I can see where it would be a modern extension of the idea of sharing the fruits of the harvest.

Happy Thanksgiving and I hope the Cornish hen was a success!

I've had dinner ages ago and all these food posts are making me ravenous, lol.

The hen is in the oven now (so far, so good), so I'm back online again, naturally. A lot of families do their Thanksgiving dinner in the early afternoon, but my guy and I were enjoying lolling around this afternoon and decided there was no real hurry. ;)

One drawback of this household -- he doesn't like pumpkin pie, so we're not making one. But there's still some of the yummy chocolate cake with coconut frosting he made for the little party we had on Sunday, so that will do nicely instead!
