Tempest (2011)

Since I've been sick and gross all week (and still am -_____-), I marathoned the j-drama Tempest (2011), which has been on my watch list for a while. Like Saiunkoku Monogatari, it stars an intelligent young woman (NAKAMA YUKIE) who wants to become a court official. Unlike Saiunkoku heroine (I think -- still haven't gotten around to watching ( Read more... )

Ooh. You're probably the only other person I know who has watched this. I saw this as it was airing in Japan. I heard that the novel is a bit more graphic and violent esp wrt to Gackt's character. I just watched the show without any prior information other than the cast. Had no idea Gackt has been typecast, since I've never seen him on anything else. Oh well! I think they could've made him more than just your average creepy snake-tongued villain. What a waste ( ... )

Oh, I don't know about Gackt being typecast -- I just don't like him much, so him + gross role = ewww. It does crack me up that he always likes to take on weird roles though, which Gackt fangirls always seem to find upsetting?? lol. I think there were hints that there were more to the character, but they were mostly dropped for gross drama and blehhh mostly I just hate that character type a lot.

You know, Saiunkoku has been on my watch list like FOREVER now (even my mom adores it XDDDD), but I keep putting it off because of how long it is. XD THat may be the next thing I pick up to marathon if my cold doesn't start improving soon though.

Then again, this is a Japanese drama-it's hard to find one that really shows women being fully in charge.

I'm not really surprised since there is always something on J-dramas (inconsistent writing, bad acting) that will make an otherwise decent drama fall short of near-perfection. Yeah, sadly I think this is true. (I caught bits and pieces of BOSS last year -- I should probably watch it in full!) ( ... )

Glad you saw Galileo! I'm not surprised you enjoyed it. My uncle lent me the book on which the movie is based and I just had to check out the drama and movie. Definitely one of the better adaptations...and I think I will be rewatching that soon enough ( ... )
