Wow, it's been ages since I posted here. School was a bitch this year. I any case I'm back to icon work and have made up some textures for people to play with.

oooh pretty!

I'm going to sound stupid for a bit but, what exactly *is* a texture and how do you use it in icon making? I love making icons and am always looking for ways to improve.

Textures are used as overlays or to add texture to the image. They are often screened, overlaid, or otherwise used to modify the base image. The textures around the face on my user icon or the lines on this icon

You can find a lot of tutorials on using them on the web, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
