It's sad how many people hate Hagrid - I think it's a shame anyway, but especially in light of this post. He really was there for Harry all along, and I think fandom overlooks that, instead seeing him as a giant version of Jar Jar Binks. Sure, he has his faults, especially in OoTP (which I'm currently re-reading), but he was there for Harry from the get go.
Tea is definitely British! Pubs are also British, but Harry's just eleven here. ;) (Though actually, Dumbledore's Army first meets in a dodgy pub in OoTP. Keep calm and baaaa on!)
I'm pretty ambivalent towards Hagrid myself. I don't mind when he appears in the story, but he's not one of the characters I would be desperate to see re-appear. Maybe it has to do with finding him incredibly difficult to write!

If anything, he's incredibly loyal to the ones he loves and who have stood up for him before--Dumbledore and Harry's man through and through!
I'm not really familiar with the Jar Jar Binks reference (I never got into Star Wars, so I only know vaguely which character that is, and nothing about how he/it is characterised). However, I've heard comparisons to Jar Jar for Dobby rather than Hagrid ... so seems like maybe it's just a character on the 'good' side that annoys people?
I don't know, I never found Hagrid or Dobby annoying to read about, so I guess I wouldn't understand the comparisons anyway
