I've heard car crashes also called T-bones when you're hit from the side at an intersection.

I didn't know your boats used air tanks to keep afloat. That's fascinating and makes tons of sense. Just never thought about it. :)

Yup, the air tanks weren't really something I thought about, even when I was a young sailor, until I saw what happened when they took in water!

I was going to say the same thing as May. When you get hit from the side in a car crash they say you got t-boned.

Do rudders snap often?

That's the only one I've ever seen so far, so I would say no, but I have seen other rudders with fracture lines in them, just that we didn't use them once they looked like that.
