scanlation being sold on Amazon as ebook

Dec 27, 2015 09:12

Looks like (some of) Tokyopop's English version of Silver Diamond is being sold digitally on the US Amazon! I only see volumes 2-6 available, and they're being sold for $4.99 apiece. Anyone gonna pick these up?Uh-oh, guys. I bought one to check it out, and someone's selling Sweet Lunacy's scanlation as an ebook. :\ I'm gonna contact Amazon about it ( Read more... )

Uh-oh, better not. I tried buying one to see, and it looks like it's someone selling a scanlation instead. :\ It's not Tokyopop's translation being used, and the book wasn't reformatted for Kindle use. I'm gonna go e-mail Amazon about it...

Mm I bought one of it but my kindle is still trying to download it. So they are scanations?I'll check when it'll finish. Aside having wasted 4 euros (bye bye little ones... :/ )how can make amazon know?

I didn't bother buying volumes 3-6 being sold, but I can only assume they're the same. And yeah, I double-checked the translation against my copy of TP's release and Sweet Lunacy's, and it matches up with SL. :\

I contacted them with their standard "Contact Us" form, since I couldn't find anything else (Help (at the bottom of the main page)>Need More Help (in the Browse Help Topics box)> Contact Us); I let them know that pirated material was being sold, and asked for it to be delisted and my money returned. Amazon's always been good about refunds, so you'll probably get your money back.

Just checked. I bought volume 6. I can't compare it with TP printed version because I don't have them, but I can see only half page in every page. So I think this volume (6) also are scanlations,  at least is not ebook formatted. I'm going to do the same as you. Thanks for the advice!

If it helps, here's the text on the first page of TP's vol 6:

The Prince?

Yeah, he suddenly said "Call everyone together."
"Everyone," he said. "Everyone without fail."
I wonder if something happened.
It didn't seem like that was the case.
All that he said so far...

...is that "there is danger. Call everyone together."

Just got a reply back from Amazon. They were super prompt; they refunded me and passed on my message to whoever's in charge of authenticating Kindle releases. Hopefully this crap will be removed.

Doesn't look like they've removed it from the kindle store yet though. I still see vol 2 - 6 there. The couple I checked the 'look inside' sampler on, I couldn't tell what they were (if Tokyopop or Scanlation), but I did notice on at least one sampler page that half the text in a bubble was missing like it was cut off.

Tokyopop doesn't have the authorization to distribute english ver. anymore in any format, the reverted the license when they close shop in US.

If you see anyone selling english ver. anywhere that isn't tokyopop used print book that would be they are all scam.
