Crazy Things

The day that Jaejoong and Yunho pack up their bags and leave the small place (it’s not a home, he tells himself over and over) they shared together, Heechul decides that life is too short to just sit around.

He pulls Hankyung away before the Chinese man can be sucked into a weepy farewell and all Hangeng manages to do before he is pulled out, is bury his face in Yunho’s neck and press a teary kiss to the corner of Jaejoong’s lips. Yunho and Jaejoong are feverishly demanding phonecalls and promising visits and something about dreams and love; Heechul brushes off Yunho’s hand and digs his heels in, finally managing to drag the Chinese dancer out the door.

Heechul doesn’t let go of Hankyung’s wrist as they walk along the streets, thin fingers gripping tight enough to bruise. Hankyung doesn’t say anything and Heechul pretends he doesn’t realize.

They stay silent and after about seven minutes, it starts to annoy Heechul, so he tells Hankyung about what he’s planning to do to his hair (red, past the shoulders) and how they should get Siwon to buy them lunch. They walk along the busy streets, Hankyung still wearing an apron and Heechul in pajamas and they get all sorts of odd glances, but Heechul just flashes them a sharp smile full of teeth and they’d look away.

They stop at a park and Heechul wedges his narrow hips into a children’s swing and sits there swinging his legs and kicking up dust. Push me, he tells the wooden horse and there’s a squeak of springs as Hankyung gets up and then Heechul is flying, up and up, his hair in his face and if there happen to be tears on his face, well, there’s no one to see it.

You’ve been crying, Hankyung says lightly even when Heechul jumps off the swing with a laugh and a pout, his cheeks dry and eyes bright.

It was raining, you pabo, he mutters defensively, staring at Hankyung and not at the sunny skies above.

Okay, the answer comes with a smile and a nod. It’s not sarcastic or condescending, a little hopeful if anything. Then Heechul bites his lips and turns away when a trail slides down the Chinese man’s cheeks, it’s raining, Heechul-ah.

They end up standing there in a children’s playground, a meter apart, crying without saying anything at all. They don't touch; it feels like they are.

Heechul sniffles and wipes Hankyung’s face with his sleeve, Yah! You’re an idol, how can you look like this in public?!

Hankyung sniffles, eyes red, but there’s a smile on his lips, We’re not famous yet, Heechul.

But we will be…we’re going to be fucking famous, Kyungie, Heechul mutters firmly as he drags Hankyung out of the park and down the streets (a part of his brain tells him that they’re holding hands now. He thinks part of his brain is stupid and annoying, but he blushes anyway.)

They don’t stop until they’re in the heart of Seoul’s shopping district, slightly out of breath and faces warm. We’re going to be famous (you’re going to be infamous, Hankyung sniggers), so lets do all the crazy things we’d never do, things we won’t be able to do ever again when we make it.

For a moment, Heechul thinks that Hankyung is going to frown and brush him off, but the next second, it’s Hankyung who is pulling him by the hand and Heechul splutters as the water from the fountain crawls up his pajamas and splashes across his face.

You ruined my hair, he growls and tries to tackle Hankyung, the dancer dodging easily. They run through the water and Hankyung laughs when a spurt hits Heechul straight in the eye. They walk around the square dripping wet and giving out autographs. They look fabulous, Heechul thinks, and gorgeous, who on earth wouldn’t want their autographs?

They go through the rest of the day acting like children; Heechul being a bitch to little kids and Hangeng doing pirouettes on top of a ledge. Laughing with their head thrown back and mouth open; the sun’s shining on their faces and Heechul kicks off his fluffy slippers and gets up on top of a rubbish bin and sings in all the wrong notes.

They’re walking home in the dark and Heechul hadn’t let go of Hangeng’s hand since the other had helped him down from the bin. It’s weird, two men holding hands like this in the dark, but it doesn’t feel like it, not when Hangeng is smiling and their fingers lace together so well.

The little apartment is quiet and too empty, when they finally get back and Heechul feels Hangeng’s hand tighten around his. There’s a plate of Jaejoong’s signature mandu on the bench and Hangeng lets go of Heechul’s hand to pick it up. Hangeng’s crying all of a sudden and something plummets in Heechul’s stomach. He can't blame the rain this time, but it doesn't explain why he’s reaching out, fingers in Hangeng’s hair and lips kissing the hurt away.

Heechul pulls away first, eyes wide and he doesn’t apologise even if his mind is screaming for him to.

Get some sleep, forget all the sad things and the crazy stuff we did, wake up sane or something.

With that, Heechul turns on his heels and leaves Hangeng alone to clutch at the plate of mandu in his hands.

Heechul wakes up in the middle of the night to find Hangeng climbing into bed with him, eyes puffy and hair messed up as if he had been running his fingers through them for thee past few hours. His hand is cold when it wraps around Heechul’s.

I don't want to forget, Chul. Heechul can feel the words wash over him as Hangeng whispers them against his shoulder. About sun-rain and singers who can’t sing and ballet dancers in aprons...Let's be crazy together...
