And I am aiming to have an LA pitstop, just don't know for sure yet (because I would also like a day or so in SF but am not sure if that's possible, plus flying in to SF from AKL is a) about an hour longer and b) more expensive.)

I also have now found a new definition for "oh god save me" which is taking three pounds of VERY SMALL PEBBLES and having to inspect them all - individually - and ascertain whether or not they have more than 70% of their surface area 'rough' or 'broken' as opposed to 'smooth'.

I find that notion bizarrely exciting.

I was kind of intrigued at first in the "ooh, complicated and mathy in the good way" except then it was like "OH GOD SO MANY PEBBLES NAUGHTY PILE OF ROCKS, NAUGHTY!" Heh.

I do not know what it is exactly that you do, but if they have you inspecting pebbles, perhaps it is all a big joke on the newbie?

you know, I would have thought that myself seven months ago but I actually had to read the official NZ standard on How To Inspect the Damn Pebbles before I did it so I know it's legit. Sadly.

oh, god, i'm so going to boston, aren't i? i ran into waterstones on the way to work and bought a rough guide. it looks pretty! i will be making a week of it: if nothing else, require tourism as additional excuse, after tardington texted me to demand i send more details of "man-(c)on-man plz! will there be cosplay? larping?
