Ollie had been greatly enjoying the last few days. For him, they had been nothing short of a dream come true. He wasn't used to having such regular playmates--or, more specifically, regular playmates so focused on playing with him. Bobby tended to demand the attention of others, and little brother Ollie had a tendency to get left behind--sometimes literally. But Uncle Brax and Auntie Benny had spent all sorts of time with him, even though Uncle Brax looked like someone rich and important. He wasn't sure why they wanted to play with him, but he was afraid that asking might make them go away, so he just kept playing. After all, it was fun! And, more than that, it helped him to stave off the nagging questions of where his mum and dad and brother were and why he'd been left on this Plane with two people he'd never met before. He didn't want to think about that at all ( ... )

Benny frowned as Oliver frowned. The frown stayed stuck where it was for a few seconds, until she heard Brax's voice break the silence. In that split second, she pasted a smile on her face, because that is what she always did when she felt something rather unpleasant. She wondered at times if she smiled more out of unhappiness than she ever did out of happiness. That felt far too selfaware though, so she jumped up to help Brax with the drinks ( ... )

Oliver blinked when Auntie Benny looked away. He made a face, then shook his head to chase away the remnants of the funny feeling. Strangely enough, it was already disappearing. He figured that was a good thing because it had been weird, and he hadn't liked it at all.

That worry set aside, he made another face because his hair was being ruffled. "Auntie Benny!" he protested.

But Uncle Brax had asked him a question, and you had to answer important adults like him, so Oliver turned his mind to that. The only problem was that he wasn't sure how to answer. Was something wrong? He couldn't think of anything that was--except maybe one feeling that was still with him. He fidgeted, looking down at his lap as he spoke. "I wanna see Mum soon," he admittedly quietly ( ... )

Benny found herself caught off guard by Ollie's question. She looked at him, trying to hide the discomfort, anxiety and the smallest amount of annoyance she could feel rising. The more questions he asked and the more he looked at her as if he understood something she wasn't even aware of, the more she wanted to run away all together.

She smiled at Oliver, "Of course, just like Brax said. Most of us do, right?"

She sighed loudly, staring at the screen, still smiling, hands wrapped tightly around her glass.

"Now, aren't you meant to be playing or are you tired of that all ready?"

"Guess so..." Oliver murmured at Uncle Brax's answer. He was glad that he wasn't criticising him for saying he missed his mum--his dad definitely would have done--but he was still sad it wasn't an answer to the question that he actually hadn't asked. He really did want to go see his mum.

But he was distracted from those thoughts when Auntie Benny looked at him. He immediately made a face, feeling funny all over again. He was just as disturbed as Benny, partly because he could feel it from her, but mostly because he didn't understand anything, but he felt it, and it made his stomach knot up and his head spin. He squirmed in his seat, bringing up his hands in fists to rub his eyes ( ... )
