She smiled, laughing just a little and quietly. It felt nostalgic to be sitting across from Sam and having him interrogate her on something she had done. It was a little more than a year ago, but it was still fond. Part of her couldn't believe that Sam was really back again ( ... )

"When I woke up again, Josef and Hoecker were there," she started again, now biting her lip anxiously, "I...I was pinned down with my own knife and two others, through the arms and the stomach. I couldn't move and it--it hurt so much. I really thought I would die. Josef hadn't killed me right there because he wanted to know where his...patients were, of all things. Ne, what a cruel man. He was so angry. I'd never seen him that angry, Sam. I was scared that he was going to hurt me, and well, I guess he did when he hit me, but that wasn't really that bad. It could have been worse, anyways. He wanted to use me to find them, since I--can track people. You know that."

She swallowed hard. Diva laced her fingers together, setting her forehead on her hands and looked at the table. "I...didn't realize it, not until he mentioned it. It took me a long time to wake up, so they took me to that same room wh-where...where it happened. Diva sniffed and grabbed his hand after a moment. She never really had gotten the amount of blood she had wanted, so her skin felt like ice. But it wasn't the time to dwell on that, so she wiped her face clear of tears, careful to use the back of her hands rather than Sam's shirt. So after a moment to compose herself, she smiled up at him.

"Ne, then...It's really something, isn't it? Thank you again for taking them. I was a little worried you wouldn't be able to."

And after a beat, she added, "Don't listen to Josef, by the way. I know I really don't need to tell you, if anyone, but...I know he'll try and tell you really awful things. I know him too well."

Diva hadn't really thought of that. Granted, she didn't know much about how the legal system worked at all, since she had sort of bypassed it, but she still assumed that they would get somewhere else. Her surprise showed on her face, but she was more alarmed at the prospect that they might not stay somewhere. Preferably far away from her.

"Ah, but...You won't let them out, will you? You know what they did, so you can't just let them go, either, can you?" she asked.

Thinking about it, she knew how picky Sam could be about things. Hopefully Gene would be...Gene and get them away for something.

Diva held his hand a little more tightly, looking down at the table. "You can't let them just leave, especially not Josef. He could find me, and--I don't think I need to tell you what that could mean. You have to help me."

Because when Diva was lonely, she was stupid. It was as easy as that. Without Sam, her Chevalier or even much of anyone on the Plane, she had turned to the only person who she thought would really listen to her. So he knew about her little home in Verzenay, along with many other things she was regretting telling him.
