"I'm not incompetent."

The Doctor was, without a doubt, irritated. And, since it required too much concentration to keep that emotion in check, he just decided to show off his irritation as best he could. Slamming the occasional drawer close, scowling for no good reason.

Well, there was a good reason. First of all, he was chained to a version of his past self. Now, it was a past self he really liked, so that wasn't so bad (except for the black suit, the Doctor couldn't quite understand that). But, no. His companion was chained up to--that's right, his verymost favorite version of himself. And, therefore, not around. Which shouldn't have made him so irritated, but it meant he was on that other ship. Which meant the Doctor couldn't keep an eye on him. Also, the ship was empty, besides himself and his new chain-link partner.

It was irritating.

"If we subactualized dwarf star energy, it might break a link," he offered.

"I'm quite aware, but you are being a bit forceful." For his part, he'd been as gentle and careful as always; it made a sharp contrast.

He offered a slight nod at the suggestion, acknowledging it as a valid one.

"It might also blow one of our hands off. And if it reacts in an unprecedented manner..." All too possible, when you were working with an unknown material. He hadn't done it in a very long time.

"We ought to learn more about it, I think, before we attempt breaking it." Not that any of their tests had been conclusive thus far.

The Doctor made a little face at that notion. It wasn't that the Doctor detested learning new things, he just detested the idea of studying new things. Sitting about in a library researching when he could've been off looking at dwarf stars or causing great big globs of trouble on a dwarf-star planet.

"Right. We should. Definitely. I think a little detour to Starastuua Minor might be a good start. See the dwarf star energy up close, get a study of its power."

The Doctor rolled his eyes, but he was smiling.

The inability to sit still was a disadvantage, in the long run, but he could tolerate it for now.

"All right, then, Starastuua Minor it is."
