Life Is a House--a (tardy) birthday tribute to Heath

Life Is a House: Birthday Tribute to HeathI have been thinking for a long time about how to pay homage to Heath’s life and work on this most important day . . . which also happens to be the day my husband and I moved into our first house together (after living in apartment, condo, apartment) last year. Thus it’s a day I had associated with joy for ( Read more... )

These words of yours pack a wallop. You make some great points about the parts of our lives we allow to see, stuck out there on the front porch for anyone who wanders by to ogle, as opposed to the parts we keep upstairs in the back of the dark closets of our beings. I love word pictures, and the imagery here was breathtaking.

As I read, the lyrics to the old song "A House Is Not a Home" ran through my mind, and I leave some of them here for you--

A room is a still a room, even when there's nothin' there but gloom
But a room is not a house and a house is not a home
When the two of us are far apart
And one of us has a broken heart

RIP, darlin' boy. We hardly knew ye.

Oh, you're so right! I wish I had put a front porch in here; that would have been a good one. Thanks for the lyrics too--they work very well. And yes, I hope he's resting in peace, at last.

Lovely, Jen. It's poignant that this reminds me of that old British nursery rhyme, "This is the house that Jack built." How each action is connected to another, to another...and so forth. Well, you've showed us the house that Heath built. Where there is sadness and loss and openness and joy and private moments and wide open spaces. So sad that the doors are shut and shuttered, but the light of our candles can still seep in and illuminate what once was, and will still live on in the hearts of those carrying his flame. Hugs - Em
