Yen Press apparently acquired the rights to Soul Eater Not! and already has the first chapter available in English in this month's issue of Yen Plus.

ETA: In the current issue of Yen Plus, Kurt Hassler claims that YP will be caught up with the Japanese chapters of Not! and publishing simultaneous chapters with GanGan starting in January 2012. ( Read more... )

Oh, that's pretty cool. I've never managed to pick the series up but maybe being able to read it on paper would help. :D

Oh, this is a great thing. I am unsure if I will read it (I cannot parse how it possibly relates to the main series and no one I have ever asked knows) but it is good to see it coming over.

Uh, maybe you were asking the wrong people?

How it relates to the main series is that it's a prequel focusing on a new group of characters. It's basically just fanservice characters having cutesy school adventures + extra worldbuilding info. That's all.

Maybe you're confused because Tsugumi called Maka her "senpai"?

That's because Maka had been at the school longer than Tsugumi. "Senpai" means seniority in context, not literal older age. Spirit calls Stein his "senpai" even though it's noted that Spirit is older than Stein. Likewise with Tsugumi and Maka.
