In order to discover who the above quote belongs to, I copy/pasted and searched it in google. Theodor Adorno; never heard of him. Then I stumbled across a page of his musings on writing, which are truly invaluable and wise. I'll probably refer to this page a lot for years to come.

I had no idea this was Adorno. I recently took a course in literature of French expression, meaning authors who wrote in French but weren't French/Swiss/Canadian themselves. I'm pretty sure one of them said something very similar. I'll dig up my notes and get back to you on that.
