Right. So I saw X-Men: First Class, and I've been trying to process my thoughts on the film in a reasonably coherent manner. Let me preface this by saying that I have collected comic books since I was a pre-teen, and I wrote both my ( Read more... )

I wrote both my Senior Honors thesis and my Masters thesis on graphic novels I approve :D
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I know you're not the only one who loves the major premise but feels let down with some of the characters.

I haven't read any of the comics, which is a shame, I know:-) But I've read before that they didn't really want to keep continuity to the first movies, so I didn't mind about discrepancies there. So I obviously can't comment on movie vs comics, but I agree with Riptide - I thought the only reason he was in there is that some SFX guy has learned how to make small tornadoes and wanted to show off... :-)
But all in all I loved it. LOVE James McAvoy. *nods*

My comic book experience is very much less, so it's great to hear from someone who knows what they're talking about. I think perhaps because a lot of the books I've read have been around Legacy period, Hank was a lot less bubbly, he was totally ground down by the whole experience of basically trying to cure something he couldn't and slowly losing friends to it every time he failed. That said, I agree he was a fairly flat character in this film, given nothing like that had happened yet.

I feel about ikkle-film-Rogue like you do about Banshee. Hehe. She's a wet blanket because of her complete lack of bad-ass background.

And they even broke *their own* cannon for Moira?? WTH?

I really need more x-men icons.
