I'm applying to Ph.D. programs by December too! I still have to take the GRE as well. What subject are you looking into?

So you'll be freaking out, too! *high fives*

History, of course. But specifically, I think I'd like to focus on Cold War-era US. My sub-field would probably be Eastern Europe or Latin America and the Caribbean. I'm interested in a mix of cultural, intellectual, and diplomatic history. I'm also interested in identity--both on an individual and national level. Make sense? No, probably not. HOW WILL I PUT THIS IN A PERSONAL STATEMENT??????????????

*high fives back* The freaking out has already started!

I'm looking into early modern European history with a focus on print culture. The problem is I am not finding very many people who I'd be able to work with. I've found a few (thank god) but the majority of names I find are of people who are either dead or about to retire. *sigh*

I'm scared of the GRE and of not being able to finish my MA thesis in time. *cries*

No, in History, we only need the general test. Thank God.

I considered law school, but I got bit by the academia bug. For better or worse.

You are not freaking out nearly as much as I would.
Feel free to fret my way, any time.

This is me right now...just with my Master's instead of a PhD. I'm just glad I'm not the only person who thinks to freak out about being able to afford to move my furniture (it just seems like a slightly random thing for me to be freaking out about on top of all the other things).

I haven't even fully decided what I want to go for. I'm currently torn between History and Library Science and I NEED TO FREAKIN' DECIDE BECAUSE OMG I HAVE TO APPLY SOON!!!!

Sorry, this was supposed to be about YOUR freak-out. *MASSIVE HUGS*

It's a perfectly reasonable thing to be worried about. *nods*

Freaking out is the rational, sane thing to do. Sounds like you know what you are doing, so that is a major step.
