I haven't even been watching Heroes lately, but I've been getting the same feeling purely from how people are reacting... I guess it's because of Zach Quinto's new major movie star status now that he gets overused? I used to really like Sylar when he was introduced in the show, but he, like all the others, got so horribly written that I abandoned the show. I don't even know if I should return :/
It's good to hear that the writing in general has gotten better, at least! (The writer's strike ruined so much...) I think I'm going to marathon the new season when I have the time. Heroes used to be my favorite show, but somehow it changed so quickly.
It sounds like they're going for the media sexy things :/ It takes more skill and time to develop the "normal"/cerebral storylines (like, say, Mohinder in your icon), and the bad guy stuff offers more instant gratification. I personally would prefer truly well-written good guy storylines -- but they're so hard to find.
(Although, I must admit I don't even know if Sylar has been made into a good guy.)
