Star Trek, Thor, A Perfect Getaway

I went to see Star Trek for the third time yesterday, and I enjoyed it as much--possibly more--than the first two times. I'm still thunderstruck by how well Karl Urban embodied Leonard McCoy. But you know what occurred to me this time around? Chris Pine is really damn good as Captain Kirk. I mean... really good. I liked him before, but I was ( Read more... )

Oh that's the movie that I thought looked really silly. I might go see it if he's in it.

Speaking of Thor, do we just know that Chris Hemsworth is Thor? Like...have there been any other casting announcements lately? I've been not paying attention for the longest time so I have NO CLUE about casting rumors.

I didn't pay too much attention when I saw the adverts for A Perfect Getaway, but when I realized Chris Hemsworth was involved, suddenly, it became more interesting. :D

We have a few other casting announcements for Thor. Natalie Portman is playing Jane Foster, Brian Blessed is Odin, and Tom Hiddleston is Loki. Everyone else is just rumored. I'm getting really excited for the film. Kenneth Branagh is directing it, and that makes me even more psyched!

BRIAN BLESSED IS ODIN? Hee, that made me giggle like nobody's business. CAUSE HE'S BRIAN BLESSED.

And omg, Kenneth Branagh? Awesome-sauce. This is gonna be awesome! I hope. The inner Norse nerd in me is really worried, but Marvel can't screw it up that badly, right?

Marvel is keeping pretty tight reins on the film, so I think it'll be fine. They want all the films to be in keeping with the tone they've set up in Iron Man, since eventually most of the characters will come together in the Avengers films. So I definitely think they're going to keep it serious and focus on the epic nature of the character. Plus, what better choice to handle a story like this than Kenneth Branagh? I was so relieved when he was named director.

Now they just need to cast Captain America before I implode, lol.

It's easy to look at Chris Pine and dismiss him as a pretty boy, isn't it? But he does such a great job as Kirk.

Actually, Urban is the one I like the least out of all of them [sorry! I truly love him, I do!], mostly because he doesn't seem quite as original as the other ones with a lot of screen time.

AND I wish I didn't know the guy who played George Kirk is in that movie. Crap. Now I want to see it.

Karl is my favorite from the film, because I think he nailed McCoy's speech patterns and mannerisms. And his delivery was so good. McCoy was actually the character I was angsting about the most during casting (as he is my favorite from TOS), but when they announced Karl Urban, I calmed down considerably.

The only one I'm still kind of meh about is Simon Pegg as Scotty (my second favorite TOS character). I was never quite sold on him after the casting announcement, and in the film, he seemed to play up the comic angle moreso than James Doohan. But he entered the story much later than the others, so we'll see how he plays the role in the second film.

I don't know anything about Pegg. And like you, am waiting for the second movie to see more of Sulu, Scotty and Chekov. I wish we could get a tv series out of this though I'm sure that will never happen.

I love what Karl did with McCoy, I really do. I just like Kirk, Uhura and Spock even more than McCoy - which really surprised me.

Not sure I had a favorite TOS character, I always watched it growing up but I was never into ST that way.

Ok - off to run last-minute errands. It's too damn hot here today to move!
