Well, my first slash was Rictor/Shatterstar, and it really appealed to me because of the whole best friends thing, and the way they treated each other. Mostly, I like slash for the reason I like any other pairing---it can work in some way (chemisty ftw or personalities). I can't stand when people have to sacrifice characterization just so the pairing will work---as I hate that with het, too. Really, I think slash appeals to me just as any other pairing does. I don't really see a difference sometimes, it's just couples I ship :]

But Jack/Ianto rawr. Slash does have that certain lustrawrjrkfghee appeal, too ;D

Well, I learned about slash from Michael Shanks I think ;) he was talking about it at a con. I really had no inkling what slash was until I read a whole bunch of McShep fanfics and I thought to myself, wow that is hot :) I think my first slash couple was Jack/Daniel but the one and only slash pairing for me is McKay/Sheppard. I don't know what appeals to me about it but once I started reading it I can't stop.

Whoo *highfive* Quatre/Trowa was totally my first ship too and I was about that age. I think people who start out and stay for awhile in Gundam Wing can't help but be slashers.

Hahaha minus Digimon I was in all of those (and tbqh I've read Digimon slash even though I haven't seen more than a handful of eps of the show but that was more accidentally coming across one that sounded interesting). Sometimes I still look for pokemon fic and then I feel horribly embarrassed (but then I own the Indigo League dvds so I already had plenty to be embarrassed about) because I shouldn't. And of course HP I just can't bring myself to leave completely. I've had a pretty interesting progression of fandoms too over the years, it just keeps going and going.

I love all good romance and love stories, be they het or slash. I'll read both, but only if it works on screen....I have a tendency to see things that might or might not work in a show, and that includes relationships. If the chemistry isn't there, then I have a difficult time seeing the pairing. I also can't see pairings if the relationship I see is very different, such as that of siblings (Nick/Warrick in CSI), or paternal/mentor (Grissom/Greg in CSI ( ... )

Damn you LJ eating my original comment, let's see if I can remember all I saidI don't think I ever thought about why slash appeals to me because I was so young when I started slashing. My first fandom was Gundam Wing when I was all of 11 years old and that fandom is basically all slash so when I started looking to branch out into other fandoms I automatically looked for slash and until around the end of high school all I would read was slash and gen. I think it's interesting how the more secure I became in my sexuality the more I branched out in reading to the point where now I'll read anything that sounds interesting as long as I like the characters, pairing doesn't matter ( ... )
