I feel sorry for James Spader. He did a fantastic job as Daniel and I love the Stargate film. I think the reason people prefer Michael is more people are familiar with the TV series and his Daniel was allowed to evolve as a character.

(Did that make any sense to anyone?)

Yeah, it makes sense. Michael's had more time to develop the Daniel we know and love.

They're both wonderful actors, and I like both portrayals of Daniel, but I do think Michael's combination of innocence and intensity make him right for the character as it is now. And I definitely couldn't see Spader running around with a muscles and a P-90, lol.

I can't believe you're going to make me pick between Spader and Shanks! I've been a Spader fan for a looooooong time (Pretty in Pink, anyone?) and didn't Shanks say somewhere that he totally ripped off Spader's performance when he started playing Daniel? But the Shanks is so pretty. And has been Daniel for long enough that the character has had to go through some pretty major changes. How about a nice robo-Spanks?

Yeah, Michael said he totally played Daniel like James did at first. One of the reasons he cut his hair in Season 3 was to differentiate himself from Spader.
