The only time I can honestly say that the internet turned me off on a fandom was JAG. There was so much infighting among shippers and character bashing and general disrespect to fans that I didn't feel comfortable. But I finally walked away from the fandom when "fans" started attacking one of the actors because they didn't like his storyline. The actor was a sweetheart, and he didn't deserve to be bashed for something he had no control over.
Of course, back then, I didn't have LJ or other social media where I could create a safe space for myself. What I do now is just stay away from the fans who are causing trouble.
Good one! I'm answering this for Kane and Leverage by association. Well, it varies depending n what corner of the fandom I'm in. I love my flist, because they're all cool people. There are some great people in the Kane fandom. There really are. Some of them can be so generous and kind and supportive.
But then I occasionally run into a... special snowflake. You know the kind I mean. They can drive me up a wall (people bitching at Kane for every damn little thing, fighting over nonsense). But I've decided to focus on the positive fans and walk away when the others start their negativity.
Yeah, I know what you mean. *nods* Focus on the positive, yes! I finally had the guts to get rid of a few negative things, and boy, do I feel better already! :-)
Well, I would have said Steve/Jonah, but I know you like them, too. :) And I know people who like Christian/Tim (not many, though) and Christian/Riley. Even Dean Winchester/Eliot Spencer has other fans. And I think all my weird Leverage ships have a pretty good group of fans. So...
Christian/Brian Nutter. I have yet to see a single fic or even chatter about them. If I'm wrong, and people ship it, I want to see some fic! (I always circle back to jealous!Steve fic, but it needn't be.)
There is a continuation of the jealous!Steve fic I wrote you that is Chris/Brian...... it may be a while but it's happening....
And Steve/Jonah??? Oh yes please..... unfortunately I think I have to write that myself... And there is one done already, it just needs typing up & editing
