Camelot: 'Tis a Silly Place...(Thoughts on the Show + Torchwood + Meme)

Jul 08, 2011 19:18

So I finally caught up on Camelot, after discovering that it was all already on Netflix Streaming, and though I was originally more than okay with the cancellation news (I had basically put watching on hold, it had gotten to be so boring to me), I am rather disappointed now after finishing the season--I think it did get much better/more interesting ( Read more... )

I didn't know Camelot got cancelled! (I mean, I thought it would, considering we didn't hear anything about it, but I didn't know for sure.) I'm disappointed about that. I thought that the end of the season really set things up to be interesting. And of course I loved Morgan. And I like the Merlin-as-storyteller trope, so I loved the Excalibur episode. And having a weak Arthur was annoying, but I also thought that that added to the Merlin storyteller thing. Which, admittedly, the show didn't play up, but in my head it works well, haha.

Yep, it did. :( I guess now you know for sure...and yeah, I agree that it was setting some interesting things up. What do you mean by Storyteller trope, the fact that he was crafting the legend around Arthur and giving his version of the facts? I agree, it was interesting, esp as far as the hand pushing the sword out of the lake!

Yeah, that's what I mean. Merlin telling stories to make Arthur's reign larger than life. That was a major part of Here Lies Arthur by Philip Reeve, and I think it's one reason why I'm so into Arthurian legend--the reasons why the stories have lasted so long, and how they might once have been, and how they've been retold. Things like that.

Yeah, it is really interesting, especially the myriad ways in which the same basic story can be told--how he gets the sword, who sleeps with him Morgan(a) or Morgause, how he was conceived, etc--my favorite thing about seeing different televised or literary versions of the book is finding out how each does things...

Ooh what kind of book is that, a novel or a book about the legends?

Oh yeah Sybil, that was her name! I just thought of her as The Nun, lol...it is a shame we never learned more about her! And yeah, I think this was the first time I liked a Gwen as well!

And oooh okay thanks, I'll get back to you on DW! :D

Meme: DW Ships sherrilina July 11 2011, 00:34:04 UTC
My OTP: Doctor/Rose! <333 (9/Rose onwards pretty much, part of the appeal for me are the ongoing feelings/rel. b/t them despite his regen)

My OT3: Doctor (Nine)/Rose/Jack--they were such a fun dynamic at the end of s1, I would have liked to see more of it. Plus I kinda love J's unrequited love while the Doctor only really has eyes for Rose, NGL! :p

My guilty pleasure ship: IDK really...Doctor/Master? Eleven/Rose or Martha/Mickey, since people seem to ~judge those ships so much?

A ship that makes you nauseous: Eleven/Amy--I think nas. is too strong a word perhaps, but that is close to how I feel whenever Amy tried to ~seduce the Doctor (or force herself on him in s5), both b/c of Rory but also b/c Eleven acts in such a fatherly/grandfatherly way towards Amy (having met her first as a little kid especially, I think he always sees her as little Amelia inside) that it just feels wrong...:/

A ship that is too fluffy for words: Well besides Ten/Rose in s2, Amy/Rory this season has been adorable! <333

A ship that gives me nightmares: ( ... )

I've given up on Camelot, I wasn't exactly gripped by it, and then when I heard it had been dropped I just decided not to bother watching any more tbh.

As for the meme, I give yooou The Vampire Diaries, because I'd like to know more about your ships from this show :)

(and I'm still sulking we don't get Torchwood to Thursday, it just feels wrong haha)

Yeah, I definitely felt the same about Camelot, but wanted to finish it for the sake of completeness...it does get decent by the end, but maybe it'd be less frustrating if you didn't get to that point since it's canceled anyway...:/

Muahaha re: Torchwood! :p Though yeah, it is weird, and TBH I haven't seen it yet either because I was away this weekend, but hopefully I'll be able to see it before Thursday...

Okay thanks, lol, this is going to be tricky! ;)

My OTP: TBH, IDEK rn...up until recently I would have said Damon/Elena for sure, since they were the first ship that got me really excited and made me feel passionate...but lately the writers have been making it difficult. :( So IDK if I can still call them an OTP, and so far no other contender has surfaced definitively--I loved then hated then loved Caroline/Tyler in such quick succession I can't be sure on them. Maybe just the Damon/Stefan brotherly love?

My OT3: Damon/Elena/Stefan! (This one is easier...solve it with threesome! :p)

My guilty pleasure ship: Stefan/Katherine ( ... )

I agree -- Camelot started coming together at the end (although THANKS FOR KILLING OFF ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS -- I was only meh about Igraine at the beginning, but somehow, by the end, she had really wormed her way into my heart, and I was DEVASTATED when she died D =). Definitely agree that JCB wasn't the best casting. I remained neutral on it for a while because I wanted to give him a chance, but ... yeah. It just didn't work. Everyone else, however, was FANTASTIC. They should've thrown their own twist into the legend, killed off Arthur, and just let us go on with all of the others. =P

Oh, God. The gratuitous naked/half-naked females scenes were RIDICULOUS. Really? They were REALLY necessary? Ugh, stupid writers, gtfo.

Did you watch Torchwood yet?!?!?!

If someone hasn't asked it yet, Harry Potter for your meme! I don't think I know your guilty pleasure (although I can imagine which ships gives you nightmares/makes you nauseous =P).

Yeah, I wasn't as attached to Igraine as that, but I did like her better by the end, and her death was sad! (Esp b/c of Merlin's reaction..:( ). And glad I wasn't the only one to feel that way, re: the women! /rolleyes/

NO I HAVE NOT GOTTEN TO SEE IT YET!!! :( I've been out of town this weekend, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow or Tuesday to see it...was it good?!

And okay, haha I just watched some of the Larry King HP special because it was on in the airport gate waiting area I'm in rn...HP here we go! :)

My OTP: Harry/Hermione of course! ♥ (Bet you didn't see that one coming! :p). Although Snape/Lily probably comes in second, the only remotely canon ship in that series I liked...

My OT3: Well I guess Harry/Hermione/Ron as a FRIENDSHIP only...(Otherwise maybe Hermione/Harry/Luna? IDK I ship Harry with both).

My guilty pleasure ship: Tom/Ginny In the full twisted, dark, wrong sense though, and only AU...it's a long story. I made a vid though...:p.

A ship that makes me nauseous: HARRY/GINNY. Superficial, antifeminist and ( ... )

IT WAS FANTASTIC. There's one scene where Gwen is a TOTAL badass. I died. Hopefully you'll enjoy it as well!

Harry/Hermione? OTP? WAH?! =P

It's funny how most Harry/Hermione shippers ship Harry with Luna as well! I'm with you on that one. =)

I actually now several people who ship Tom/Ginny! I don't ship it myself, but I can def understand the appeal of it.

Oh, God, when people start shipping present!day Voldemort with other people I just ... no. No. Let's not go there. Thanks.

I think the universe every day that TPTB found Dan and Emma. THEY DID SO MUCH FOR OUR SHIP.

Heh, IKR, re: H/Hr, I live to surprise! :p And yeah, I think it's a mark of how much H/G-hate is NOT just shipper bitterness at not getting our ship as some idiots claim, if we ship Harry with lots of other girls too and are rooting for other pairings, clearly it's H/G we don't like in of itself! *rolleyes* Stupid JK...>:(

And oh really, re: T/G? Nice! :D Glad you don't think I'm a freak for it, lol, some are like "omg it's raaaape!" and such.

Ack, I must watch the new TW soon, sounds excellent, stupid schoolwork getting in the way so far...:(

I've actually stopped watching Camelot weeks ago and I don't know when I'm going to catch up. I think that I've only watched 4 episodes. I agree with you that they did a mistake casing JCB as Arthur and I think that even without having the image of Bradley as Arthur in my head pretty much most of the times, I wouldn't like Jamie in this role. For me the way he played Arthur looked as if he was 10 years old. Tbh, I want to finish s1 because of Eva, who was amazing, but I don't know when will it happen.

The meme looks amazing, I'm going to snag it :D. Initially I wanted to ask about Harry Potter but I noticed that someone already gave it to you (I love all your answers, btw), so maybe The Borgias? :D

And just on a side note - did you know that the actress who played Sybil on Camelot in real life is married to Jeremy Irons (who of course plays Rodrigo Borgia)? I accidentally noticed it a while ago when browsing imdb.com and was like WHOA! ^^

Gah sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this! :( Anyway, I think that you should catch up on Camelot, because it does get decent by the end, though sadly there is so much boring in between...:/

And okay yess let's go, The Borgias! :D

My OTP: CESARE/LUCREZIA, duh! As if there could be any other answer...;) These two, gah, I can't even, so beautifully tender and sweet and adorable while also steamy and sexy and hot and full of UST/chemistry at the same time! They way they love each other so completely, their utter devotion to one another, it so doesn't matter that they're related...

My OT3: IDK...I don't think I have one? Maybe Cesare/Lucrezia/Her Own Awesome?

My guilty pleasure ship: You mean besides the incestuous OTP? :p IDK, Cesare/Micheletto a little perhaps?

A ship that makes me nauseous: Giovanni Sforza/Lucrezia (though I don't think anyone actually ships it!)

A ship that is too fluffy for words: Cesare/Lucrezia! ;)

A ship that gives me nightmares: Rodrigo/Lucrezia O_o Just no...

The sexiest ship to ever set sail ( ... )
