Another week, another GoT episode review (since it is the only show I seem able to keep up with on here anymore, ironically). My thoughts on this highly anticipated episode:
I knew you would be pissed about the change from "Only Cat"! I preferred the line in the book, too, so I noticed the alteration, but I didn't mind that much.
once again showcasing D&D's tendency to shy away from anything resembling character development in favor of including female nudity on the show (see: the amount of time spent on that stupid Melly scene instead YES. This bothered me way more. And ugh at them showing Daario for like 5 seconds and then Melly for like 5 minutes.
When Littlefinger kisses her it was also weird, in that they don't have her react/pull away for what felt like forever. To me it came across that she was too stunned to know what to do. So it seemed believable.
I've been meaning to see Orphan Black for a while now!
Lol, it was so funny in the ONTD post where like at least 3 people (myself included) had posted "ONLY CAT" comments in a row right before he pushed her over and then he didn't say it...it just seemed like such an unnecessary change to an iconic line. Although what bothered me more was the lack of Lysa backstory and the way the whole thing was so rushed. The scene just blew my mind when I was reading the books, so glad that is where I was exposed to it first.
To me it came across that she was too stunned to know what to do. So it seemed believable.
I imagine that is what they meant, but still...she was stunned for a long time.

You should watch it, it's so good!!! Like almost all the important characters are women played by the same actress amazingly, what more could you want? :p I think you would like it.
I guess they felt they hadn't shown Cat recently enough for people to remember. They do like to dumb it down with names for TV viewers (hello there Yara Greyjoy).
Idk, I can imagine being freaked out and freezing up if I was a young girl and a dude like Littlefinger tried to kiss me. Though I would also have been fine with her slapping him in the face. :P
Just tossing between doing that or the Vikings next.
Yeah but they literally had just mentioned her when he said he loved her mother (could have said Cat) before macking on Sansa....if they had included the scene where Sansa asks if she can go by Cat in honor of her mother that would have been a good reminder as well (but noooo we have to have stupid filler and rush Sansa's storyline instead!).
Just tossing between doing that or the Vikings next.
Yeah I really want to watch that too (it does have the ~period~ angle), but it's not available on Netflix/Hulu/etc, unfortunately...:/ If it helps, it sounds a little more problematic than OB is, if you need a break from that on GoT.
I thought they called Rachel a "proclone" as in "prototype clone" because she was the first?
As for Alison's characterisation - I'm not sure if anything was ever said about her adopting parents. Perhaps that would explain some of her life choices better. I was generally wondering about that - how they were placed and monitored as children.
Was she the first? Did they say that, or just assume it because she was all corporate? :s I know she's the only self aware clone, but I assumed they made them all at once, since it's synthetic and not from an original anyway? Except wait no, I guess they were birthed as opposed to Test Tube babies since we had the whole birthmother storyline last year.

Hmm, that is a good point, maybe her mother was a scary Stepford wife! And I guess they found sterile women who wanted kids or people desperate for cash willing to work as birth mothers...but it would be good to get more background on that! Even with Sarah, I feel a bit unclear....like I thought Ms. S got her as a baby, but now a wiki I saw said she was 8?! (Maybe that's wrong...)
I actually think they said that in the season 1 finale.
like I thought Ms. S got her as a baby, but now a wiki I saw said she was 8?!Yeah that doesn't sound all that plausible. Because her birth mother said she gave one to the state (Sarah) and one to the church (Helena). I mean okay, I guess if Sarah had stayed in a orphanage before that's another thing, but she couldn't have stayed with her birth mother because at 8 years you'd have memories. Perhaps Mrs. S took off with Sarah and Felix and emigrated to the U.S. when Sarah was 8
( ... )
They didn't outright say in Season One that Rachel was the first, and in fact they said in the episode before last that the Duncans were supposed to get Sarah and Helena, but Amelia ran away, and they ended up with Rachel instead. But according to background information, Cosima is six days older than Sarah and Helena. I think "proclone" just means she was raised by the scientists as a kind of control in the whole experiment. It was Felix who called her that.
Cosima mentioned in Season One that most clones, like herself and Alison, were born to parents who went for in vitro fertilization and got impregnated with the clones instead.
The Tyrion/Oberyn scene was my favorite, probably because it incorporated so much from the books. I liked the whole episode, however, except that it looks like they're implying that Melisandre wants to sacrifice Shireen to get their voyage started with the power of her king's blood, which I think is a dumb plotline to add because she never suggested doing any such thing to Shireen in the books, and it would be stupid when Shireen is Stannis's heir.

WHAT?! OMG no! Don't you dare hurt my bb girl Shireen. >:( I hadn't even thought ofof that implication, I was thinking more about the air of mysticism around her (like that makes the wildlings react the way they do). That would be really stupid, and Stannis would never agree to it based on the way they have shown him to be attached to his daughter so far.
And yes, including so much book dialogue helped make that T/O scene great!
