Sorry for hopping over and coming out of nowhere, but now I am curious: Why do washing machines not belong into bathrooms? Where else am I supposed to put them?

Ah, I'm British, and this is a peculiarly British prejudice :) UK electrical safety regulations are quite strict around bathrooms - you can't have standard plug sockets in there, and any switches for lights or electric showers or fans are usually also the ceiling-mounted pull-cord type, so you can't touch the switch itself with wet hands. The idea of having a large plug-in free-standing electrical appliance in your bathroom therefore seems weird and dangerous to British people. (And as for where we do keep them, traditionally it would have been in a separate laundry or utility room, but since most houses are much smaller than that these days, they usually go in the kitchen.)
