Dark!Holmes AU

The world is ruled by a pair of despotic brothers. Mycroft Holmes controls everything with an iron fist and a benign smile. Sherlock Holmes is his second-in-command, brilliant and very dangerous, in charge of enforcing his brother's laws and tracking down anyone who goes against it. Captured rebels are giving to him to break, and horror stories are told of what goes on in his special prisons.
John is a leader of the rebels, notorious for being the only person to not only survive Sherlock's personal attention, but also to escape one of his prisons. His brilliant guerrilla tactics and growing band of loyal followers make him a threat to the Holmes brothers' regime, and they will do everything they can to capture him. Knowing that he will not likely live to see his fortieth birthday, John fights on, grimly determined to fight to the end.
Then after a mission gone wrong, John wakes up in a world where he's an ex-army doctor, countries are free, and the man who tortured him is his flatmate.

Forgot to add - bonus points for:
- Dark!Sherlock is fascinated by au!John because he thought he had au!John all figured out within a few minutes, only for au!John to completely surprise him and not only escape a high security prison, but keep evading capture for years. Dark!Sherlock is obsessed with hunting him down so he can take him apart and see how his mind works.
- Au!John has a limp because he got shot in the knee.
- Mycroft sending not-Anthea to kidnap au!John for a chat over tea and biscuits. Au!John to flip out and nearly kill not-Anthea, the driver, and everyone else in the car.
- Au!John thinks that everything is a massive mindgame orchestrated by the dark!Holmes brothers to get him to reveal the rebels' secrets. He realizes the truth when he sees Anderson alive, because au!Anderson died under his hands years ago.

The majority of people thought Unus was fantastic, the closest thing to utopia that the world would ever be able to reach. Most people didn't even think about how Unus was actually U.N.U.S. and stood for United Nations Under Sovereignty, either

John wanted his sister back. Furious, he went storming over to his 'local Unus office' like the mysterious Kathy Price told him to. Of course the door was locked and they were out to lunch, but he didn't care. They'd stolen his sister. They'd stolen Harry and were doing god knows what to her, and John was banging on the door demanding answers before he'd even considered what he was doing, only stopping when a woman grabbed him by the arms and shouted for him to stop

John stared at the group in front of him. "This is it? This is the group that actually knows what's going on?"
"You're not much to look at either," one of them men snapped, only to be waved off by an older woman.
"Welcome to the club, dear," she said pleasantly, moving towards the kitchen. "I've put the kettle on, would you care for some tea?"
"That'd be lovely, thanks," John said, trying to not be confused and failing. "I'm sorry, but aren't we supposed to be plotting a way to pull down the government or something?"
The snappish man smirked at him. "You're very new, mate. Have you even heard of Sherlock Holmes

When they attacked the shipping center, John felt like there was something wrong with the plan. It was too smash-and-grab for his tastes, too likely to kill the disappeared along with the guards, and what did they do with them when they were rescued, anyway? They certainly couldn't go home

This is fantastic! The world-building going on is intriguing and I love the way you've written John so far. Gah, I'm so excited to keep reading this fic! I hope you'll be continuing soon. :)

As much as I love unusual fanfic ideas, anon, if you have any ambition as a writer, you might want to consider turning this into original fiction.
