IDK how, but John meets Mycroft first. Maybe he's Mycroft's bodyguard, maybe his personal physician, maybe he's been recruited into the secret service. And then he meets Sherlock and there's instant attraction and Sherlock's a bit confused because it's one of Mycroft's minions, but he's also interesting.
Sherlock struggling with wanting to have John be his friend and, therefore, having to deal with Mycroft would make this anon very happy indeed.

When John looks back on it, he will blame the third bullet. The first hitting its target was the kind of luck that soldiers prayed for, and John was a lucky soldier. The second hitting its target was the kind of luck that made a soldier believe in God despite abundant proof of His absence. But the third - that could only be skill revealing itself, and exceptional talent.
John is in hospital for weeks, too fevered to be aware of anything much, everything muted except his pain. He's dimly aware that he's missing something - in his fever, he's convinced that it's his luck, that he's given it to the soldier he took a bullet for - and also that the world keeps turning without it. Without him.
He finds out when his fever breaks that the circumstances that put him in hospital are swiftly becoming legend. OMG this is fantastic! I seriously love how you've written John and how distinctly unimpressed he is! And something missing and John being a sharpshooter!
I'm quickly losing coherence from how awesome this beginning is. More, please?
(And TVTropes is that wonderful kind of awful for being so amazingly addicting. Totally understand about needing the brain rebooting time. I just hope it goes quickly cause greedy Anon wants MOAR.) :D

Anon needs to learn moderation and stop trying to write ten fics at once.
...Oh, shiny fic prompt! *chases*

John sits in the back of a not very discreet at all black car and fiddles with his suit. He hates escort duty, but Anthea is busy. She's probably in another country, putting down a military coup single-handedly - literally, the other being busy with her BlackBerry - so the job falls to him, like an overripe and unwanted apple.
Anthea's advice is to have something to keep him occupied. John prefers to read, although Anthea's taste in novels leaves something to be desired.
There are two main types of people John can expect to see in this car. The type who know they are important in everyday life will try to bluster or threaten - do you know who I am?! is practically guaranteed to be said at some point and it's always a good one - and John's disinterest will unsettle their conceit. Those types meet Mr. Holmes slightly cowed, if they have any brains

Okay, Anon, you have me completely hooked and I'm willing to do just about anything to make you write more. How can I bribe you? Is there anything you need and/or want that I can provide to make this the most attractive fic for you to work on? Because I'll do it, I swear.
Which is all to say how much I'm adoring and loving this fic and I want you to please please PLEASE continue, especially now that you've left us in a semi-cliffhanger. I've simply got to see how John and Sherlock's first meeting goes. Pretty please? *bats long, luscious eyelashes at you* :D

OP!Anon did not imply incest. Nope, not at all. Or Mycroft/Lestrade, for that matter.
