Gladstone=Padfoot

Sherlock and John get a dog. They call him Gladstone. This dog is not a bulldog or a bull terrier, or in any way small. In fact it's really rather huge and black and shaggy. Not only that, it seems to understand them perfectly.

Really perfectly. Even complicated sentences and Sherlock's train of thought. Though it does find the television fascinating... and everything electric really.

It also answers to the name Padfoot or Snuffles (but only from certain people).

Basically: Sirius Black is Sherlock and John's pet dog.

And then, since Sirius is used to all the crazy wizards (here's to you, Dumbledore!), he's totally used to Sherlock and John's antics.

Maybe they kinda remind Padfoot of the Marauders, like John reminds him of Moony because he's so patient.

Mycroft is definitely a slimy Slytherin, though. :(
