a/n: Short-ish fill; I hope you don't mind that it strays a bit. I'm working on the Sherlock/muse-verse thing from the other direction, but I ended up with this too. Un-beta'd, feel free to leave concrit especially if I screwed up. Thanks for reading and enjoy!Sherlock turns to drugs when Victor finally leaves him. The seven-percent solution keeps his brain busy, the circuits sparking and spiraling enough to drown out the loss, and the crash isn’t much worse than the ache of Tuesdays, eleven-a.m.’s, and his world with not a glimpse of god anymore, maybe never again. The aftermath dulls him just enough so that he’s more aware of the chills in his still-young joints and the need for the needle than the overarching emptiness of losing his muse ( ... )

a/n: The end continues to be stubborn. I'd forgotten to mention that I draw heavily from the discussion of muses and inspiration in a TED talk given by Elizabeth Gilbert in 2009 (http://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html). Most of my ideas of offerings are gleaned from information presented at the Getty Villa in Malibu, California. Thanks for reading, next part to be up soon!

Amazing, John calls him, and Sherlock has to bite his tongue. It had been fantastic. He feels as if he might cry. Sherlock swallows, saves the wonder and gratitude and relief until later. He refuses to be overwhelmed and works ( ... )

Glad to see an update of this!! The difference between talent and inspiration is very compelling and quietly painful, and I really love your style. Can't wait for part 3.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a nice comment :) This last bit is being tricky (and real life beckons), but I should have it ready over the next few days!

-------

Sherlock wakes up the next morning and remembers. There’s a vague sense of déjà vu, which he shrugs off because, more pressingly, he remembers what made him lose his breath before.

Sherlock has something of a hypothesis, and there is evidence to be had. He tears into the kitchen, dressing gown billowing behind him like a heavy storm cloud. The tin is clean.

Oh.He stares, frozen in place. The near-confirmation is dizzying ( ... )

Not the OP, but I really like this. It's like you really took that "conductor of light" remark and ran with it--I can feel the air spark. :)

Yay! I realized the "conductor" connection after I'd written in a lot of the electricity mentions and hoped I could separate the opposite relationships well enough. Thank you for commenting :)

That was beautiful, really beautiful! I can definitely feel how muse!John lightened Sherlock's life with inspiration: there's two distinctive feelings when reading the bit before John and the bit after John, I did feel the spark there while reading. Loved the ending too, very simply yet elegant: with those two simple lines - John steps around Sherlock and out of the kitchen. Sherlock feels as if he’s been struck by lightning. His gaze wanders to his lab equipment. Sherlock begins again. - I felt what a long and inspired excitement Sherlock was about to experience.

Well done, great fill!
