Warnings for torture and death

When Mycroft had Moriarty tortured it included the arrest of Sebastian Moran. Basically Mycroft had someone put a gun to Sebastian's head and counted to four until he shot him. Jim told them the truth about whatever they were asking to save Sebastian but because Mycroft, like Sherlock, likes things to be clever, so Jim's own attitude comes to bite him when Sebastian is executed.

Tiny bit tangential, but I'm imagining the way Moran and Moriarty would just look at each other in such a scenario. And it's kind of hot.
I'm also trying to decide is Moran would be totally cold and calm with a gun to his head, all "let them do it, Jim," or if he'd be some steaming, barely-contained bundle of rage.

Mycroft Holmes had grown impatient.
Impatient of everything, to be honest. He was tired of his people’s inability to do anything, as it seemed, properly and he was tired of the paranoia that came along with the possible existence of a universal keycode and he was tired of James Moriarty’s unbreakable silence on the topic of such a keycode.
And when Mycroft Holmes got impatient, things and people broke.
People, it seemed, did not include James Moriarty. The man seemed impervious to tortures both mental and physical. He hadn’t spoken a word since Mycroft had had him brought here, to this pale iron cell deep underneath the expansive Holmes estate. He hadn’t said a damn thing. Instead, he smiled, with barely concealed contempt.
Contempt, and yet he was the one handcuffed to a chair, not Mycroft

Moriarty’s head snapped up and his eyes met Mycroft’s directly. Where there had been complacency and near-amusement just seconds before there was now murder. His pupils were slits that reminded Mycroft of a cat. A cat threatened in an alley. By a large dog with an umbrella

Moriarty had murder in his eyes and between his teeth. He clenched his teeth and gripped the seat of the chair with shaking hands.
Moran laughed. “Well, Mr. Holmes, you’ll find a problem there…” he looked at Moriarty intently. “Mr. Moriarty here- he doesn’t have any friends.”
Moriarty looked almost pained. “Seb.”
“Two.” Shnnck. Loaded. Mycroft began to wonder if he should reassess Moran’s importance.
“Don’t worry about it Jim; there’s other marksmen out there. Only one fuckin’ consulting criminal.”
“Thr-”
“I’ll tell you.” The words came out in a rush, as though falling from a great height. Moriarty’s eyes were wild, exhilarated, terrified.
“Jim.”
“There’s also only one Colonel Sebastian Moran.” Moriarty gazed at Moran with fierce anger. “And damn you for it.”
Mycroft smiled. Check. “Well then, I’d rather information than confessions from the heart, though I’m sure The Inquirer will be interested in the latter…”
The gun was still at Moran’s head, the cold metal grinding against the oh-so-shatterable bone.

Ruthless Mycroft prepared to do anything scared me here more than he did at the end of Hounds, holy shit o_o
I absolutely loved the interactions between Mycroft & Moriarty and Moran & Moriarty, so spot on that I could just hear their voices, see the scene play out before my eyes, it was all wonderfully done!

Oh my god, EVERYONE IS HORRIBLE AND I LOVE IT. Idk why I'm so drawn to horrifying characters but this is perfection. The tension was just so on pitch, you had me on the edge of my seat. Brilliant backstory.
Jim told them the truth about whatever they were asking to save Sebastian but because Mycroft, like Sherlock, likes things to be clever, so Jim's own attitude comes to bite him when Sebastian is executed.
There rest, as they say, is history
