Oh gosh, mystery author, this is so so so lovely! <3 Your twist on this takes it from fluffy to foreboding and painful. The changes at the beginning already contribute to that "something's not right" feeling that develops until you realise what's happening, and it's like a kick to the gut. I love how you've shown us in few words how connected John and Sherlock still are, even if they aren't aware of it themselves.

I'm proud to have inspired something like this! :-)

Thank you, holyfant! I'm delighted that the atmosphere I was trying for came through so clearly. Your original story was captivating, so I was so pleased by the opportunity to color it a darker shade.

This is beautifully and cleanly written, and heartstoppingly sad. John playing solo violin pieces by himself when he wakes up in the night D:. Great twist on the original story.

Thank you cherrytide. John seems to me like a man who would grieve deeply.

This is absolutely wonderful. It's very sparsely written which gives it a bleak vibe that goes perfectly with the move from fluffy to painful. That last line, especially, is a bit of a killer in context. Really excellent.

my goodness, what a lovely story. and what a fascinating and unexpected twist on the original story. What's amazing to me is that you managed to throw in that agonizing curveball and yet, in the end, preserve some of that same wistful sweetness that threads the original together... and in a manner that builds on that same wrenching twist. (I am generally very wary of any sort of supernatural connection tropes, so the fact that you were able to make it work for me is extra-impressive.) So very well done!

Exactly! It's that wistfulness that first drew me to the original story, so I am so, so pleased that keep that note in the darker chord of the remix. Thank you, tiltedsyllogism!
