It's always so wonderful to walk into a fic like this and see how two people you hadn't really considered before can fit together. You've done such a great job of keeping John and Greg in character and writing a story that's so beautifully understated, so quiet and unassuming, that it really does the convincing all on its own. It slots perfectly into canon as we know it without any difficulty at all for me.

I admit that I haven't read a lot of John/Lestrade, but I see now that it's entirely my loss. You've certainly sparked my interest to seek out more!

I was so thrilled to see this story redone! I love getting to see more of John - he's always the voice I feel the shakiest with when I'm writing, so getting to consider things from his point of view more extensively is really fascinating. You draw out a lot of his feelings so well - the way he struggles a little with infidelity, the way he likes to keep his experiences with Greg private, from Sherlock, from his parents ... It all comes together to give a nicely complicated picture of John, which I never managed in the original. You've made the most of the shift in POV, certainly, and it fleshes everything out wonderfully. I feel like John was the silent half in the original story, and he's definitely speaking here.

I particularly like how they end where they began - it adds a lovely coda, and lets them start again hopefully, which is always a nice touch. The end here in a better place, and it's believable, optimistic, and a fabulous twist. Thank you for all you put into this, I truly enjoyed it!

I am so glad that you enjoyed this! I loved the original story. Greg and John are rapidly becoming one of my favorite pairings and I liked the sort of bittersweet place you left them in your original. I just couldn't resist giving them a little bit more time together. ;)
