14 July Picnic in Regents Park, London UPDATE
So, wow! Turns out there are a lot of people who want to have a Sherlockian picnic in Regent’s park in July. Who knew?
Anyway, this weekend the organisation committee (trillsabells and flawedamythyst) had a little recon and we have more details for you:
- Meeting at The Bandstand in Regents Park (marked on this map here) at 12 noon.
You should be aware that there is a Race For Life taking place in the park on the same day. They shouldn’t cause us any disruption but they may make transport a little busy. As they are recommending all their attendees go to Regent’s Park station, we are recommending you guys go to Baker Street station. In general, if you see a lot of fit and healthy people dressed in pink, that’s not us. We’ll be the ones in geeky T-shirts.
- Just a reminder that we’re asking people to bring something to share alongside their own food for the picnic. There is also a prize for the best Sherlock-related food!
- After the picnic there will be a treasure hunt. We walked this out and it should be about an hour and a half of walking. If you can’t manage that, please let us know and you can join us while we try to coordinate this thing. (Without the treasure hunt, there will be 10 minutes walking, then 5 minutes walking.)
- Talking of coordinating, we’re hoping to get technical and run the hunt through the wonders of mobile phones. If you have a smart phone - must be able to send/receive emails and photos - could you let us know? If you want to set up a temporary email address for us to use on the day that’s fine, we just need at least one person per team to have a smart phone we can communicate with.
- The team which completes the hunt in the fastest time gets points, and points genuinely do mean prizes. There will also be a quiz and a few other chances to earn your team some fabulous rewards.
- Dinner will be 6.30 at the Baker Street Pizza Express (Angelos was too small for everybody, sorry) which has great food and lovely Holmesian decoration. There will be a short awards ceremony for the winning teams. If you can’t make it to the day but want to come for dinner, let us know and we’ll make sure there’s a seat for you. Similarly, if you’re coming to the afternoon activities but can’t make it for dinner it would also be helpful to know.
- For everyone who’s signed up, we’ll be sending you a message a week before the picnic to let you know which team you’ve been sorted into. If you’re planning on cosplaying please let us know who you’re coming as so we can make sure you’re put into the right team. We don’t want a Sherlock sorted into Team Mycroft now, do we?
